“Yes, master.”
Although the Spirit Garden surrounding the Dream Spirit Tree was beautiful, we couldn’t waste our time watching it anymore, and we had to move on. Our destination was the tree itself, right in front of us.
Seeing it from close, we were able to see how tall it was… not a kilometer tall, but probably over five hundred meters, or a bit more, utterly enormous.
And this was only a “reflection” of the real deal in Avalon!
“Uh, so, Kat, this tree… there’s another one back at Avalon, right?” I asked.
“Yes, master, it’s really huge, probably twice as big as this one,” nodded Katherine.
“So that means it is enormous, right… Is it an Yggdrasil?” I asked.
“You asked that question before, master… I don’t know if its exactly an Yggdrasil, but it is connected to the entire Realm of Avalon, one could say it is the Realm’s anchor,” Katherine explained. “I believe it might be of the family of Yggdrasil trees, as they’re the only type of tree capable of holding an entire dimension within their roots.”
“Your King, I remember you said he had a seed or something?” I asked. “I don’t remember well…”
“Ah, yes, he had the seed of the tree, which he planted, and it eventually grew into a big tree, which… I suppose that’s how it turned into what it is now,” she explained. “They’re often known as Realm Seeds too. It’s similar to how you create your own Domain, which is expanding its internal space over time… someday, maybe, it will become its own Realm, a gigantic world of its own, existing independently!”
“Hmm, that sounds nice~” I smiled. “But that’ll be for much later, if it ever happens… So… where’s the… is there nothing?”
We flew around the tree slowly, trying to find the “something” we came here for. The moonlight was certainly reacting to the tree, but maybe our suspicions were wrong and there’s nothing here at all.
“Hmm, no, I can feel something… here.”
However, Katherine led me down and then we reached a strange area, where all the roots of the tree intermingled into a giant maze of wood and plants, beautiful and dark, faintly illuminated by crystals, glowing mushrooms, or wandering dream spirits.
The colors of the plants were clear blue, purple, or pink, there were no green plants at all anywhere, it was really like a fantasy land of fairy tales…
“What’s this place? Some sort of underground cave?” I wondered, walking across the roots with her by my side.
“Yes, I think so? I remember something similar in our tree back home…” She said. “I think we called this the… Spirit Tree’s Great Root Labyrinth.”
“I-It’s a great labyrinth? We won’t spend forever exploring it, right?” I wondered, feeling slightly annoyed.
“I don’t think so, the energy I feel is down there, not too far! And even then, although it might seem big, we can turn spiritual and pass through most physical matter either way, so we can’t really get lost,” Katherine shrugged. “Now, come, master! Follow me!”
“Okay, okay… You remind me of a certain little sprite,” I said. “Hmm, let’s take some pictures while we are here, it’s really beautiful.”
“Pictures? Ah!” Katherine’s eyes widened as I took a selfie with her, although when I looked at it, I realized I was in my dragon body, and it looked weird.
“We better take a new one with my real body…” I sighed.
“Master, such things don’t really matter, you know…?” She said. “Anyway, here.”
We walked through the wooden roots, quickly being chased around by Dream Spirit Beasts, there were a lot of them literally everywhere.
The most common of them were giant worms, or well, larvae of some kind of insect, caterpillars, which seemed to enjoy eating all the vegetation around here, or the roots themselves, which they drank the sweet sap from.
“S H Y E E E E G G H!”
They were gigantic, over four meters of height, and were always in groups of dozens of them accumulated in a spot. They seemed chill, but the moment they spotted us, they instantly attacked us, shooting venomous acid from their jaws.
They were probably territorial.
SPLAAASH! SPLAAASH! SPLAAASH!
“Uwaah?!”
Katherine panicked, but she quickly realized nothing happened to us. Their venomous acidic spit was strong, but the armor over our bodies was stronger.
That’s right.
“Don’t worry, Kat, I got this,” I patted her little head. “Remember?”
“Oh? OH! Right!” Katherine noticed her body being unscathed, the venom simply falling off her body into the ground below. “That ability!”
I was using the powerful new {Angelic Ward Protection} on the two of us.
It worked perfectly, and it was very strong, using Celestial Energy to conjure it wasn’t that annoying either, I had a lot of reserves.
In a way, it was a simpler, weaker, but more cost-effective version of the Barriers I could create using the Guardian Angel Title Ability.
“SHYEEEH!”
They kept spitting more and more acid and venom as they slowly moved towards us, glaring at us menacingly with their sharp crimson eyes.
“Alright… Might as well test these abilities and get this new body to do some exercise, right Kat?”
“I guess so! Let me assist you however I can, master!”
“Thank you, you’re very kind.”
I looked at my new Abilities, I wanted to test them all!
