First Demonic Dragon

Chapter 979 - 979: Last Chance

Nyx was browsing the halls, grumbling to herself with nothing to do.

The house wasn’t the same with all the men gone. The entertainment value had nearly plummeted.

It wasn’t as if the woman here weren’t good for a laugh or two. But there really was nothing like getting to witness the idiocy of the opposing species at 8 a.m.

Where was she going to listen to passionate complaints about sports she didn’t understand?

Who was going to describe to her in vivid detail what it felt like to be inside of a woman?

Nyx hated the annual men’s excursion!

“Please tell me you two are about to go and do something interesting.”

In the middle of the hall, Nyx ran into Audrina and Isabelle, who were for some reason dressed in hooded cloaks.

“…We’re going to go and find our former father, who was abusive to us in our previous life, and maybe chop his head off depending on our mood and /or whatever awful shenanigans he has gotten himself into.” Isabelle said a mouthful all at once.

“Well… That’s the gist of it, yeah.” Audrina nodded.

Gandora looked like she was suffocating just standing between the two of them.

That wasn’t a level of discomfort that Nyx was willing to stick around for.

She had already started backing away slowly. “W-Well, I’m sorry for asking. You two go and have fun on your definitely very personal mission, and I will-“

“You should come with us.” Isabelle suddenly said.

Audrina physically recoiled. “She should??”

“No, I shouldn’t.” Nyx kept backing away.

Isabelle didn’t seem all that interested in giving the goddess another opportunity to refuse.

Just like Audrina had done, she hooked her arm into Nyx’s and kept her from running away.

“What’s that age-old saying..? The more, the merrier.” She shrugged.

Audrina could tell that her sister was doing this out of spite. She just didn’t know why.

“Isabelle, if you-“

“Hery, Mother-in-law! I brought them!”

Monica waved at the group from down the hall. Unlike the group behind her, she was dressed in her typical loungewear and a pair of fuzzy slippers.

Behind her were a team of much more put-together individuals. A squad of four, wide-eyed young soldiers covered in armor.

Audrina smiled at her gratefully and gave her hand a warm squeeze once she came close. “Thank you, dear. I promise not to keep your men too long.”

Monica shrugged nonchalantly. “Keep them as long as you want. These four are all workaholics anyway.”

None of the Euphrates behind her even bothered to defend themselves.

The four of them seemed a tight-knit and unique group consisting of two dragons and two spirits.

The one Audrina had been informed was the leader, a male fire spirit with green flames for hair and eyes that were entirely golden.

“Apologies for calling you up on such short notice.” Audrina said in a dignified voice. “We’ll be sure to make your sacrifices worth it.”

The soldiers bowed their heads deeply.

“This is no sacrifice, My Queen. It is without a doubt the greatest honor of our lives.” The leader bowed.

“Jeez, don’t make her head too big…” Isabelle grumbled.

Audrina struck her sister over the head without so much as breaking her smile.

The soldiers just pretended that they didn’t see anything.

“Sorry about that. Shall we go?”

Similar to a Kun Peng, Gandora traveled across the multiversal waters like a bird to a bird bath.

Her large form did nothing to impede her movements as she swam through layer upon layer of reality to travel to her destination.

A fleet of four soldiers flew around her from all sides, guarding her from any unfortunate incident that might occur on their watch.

Meanwhile, inside the palanquin on the creature’s back, an entirely different atmosphere was being cultivated.

“Girl, you’re kidding…”

“I swear I’m not, I really don’t like it.”

“But I thought that you all were these great big freaks of nature.”

“I didn’t say I hadn’t tried it, but I just don’t enjoy it quite as much as Tatiana or Valerie does. What’s the fun of sex without a little jeopardy of getting pregnant?”

“Oh my god, you’re insane. With a mentality like that, it’s no wonder you’ve got all these damn kids running around.”

“You love my kids.”

“That’s true. Even if they came from lustful, sexually overbearing mothers.”

“Hey, I don’t hear my husband complaining.”

“Maybe he’s trying to, but you just keep sitting on his face before he can get the words out.”

“Oh… In that case, I really like it when he complains.”

Nyx and Audrina burst into fits of giggles like they were a pair of high school girls.

While they were laughing about something or other, Isabelle had remained deathly silent over the course of the trip.

She sat against the wall with her chin in her hands, staring forlornly out the window. Everything that was happening now seemed to be confirming some preconceived biases that she had kept to herself.

Maybe this was a mistake after all. She should’ve just stayed home.

“..elle…. Isabelle!”

“Hm?”

Isabelle had been in the same position for so long that her neck was stiff. Stretching a bit, she glanced out of the corner of her eye at her sister and Nyx.

“Didn’t you hear me? I asked why you were so quiet.” Audrina repeated.

‘Well, with you two being so chummy, I couldn’t get a word in edgewise…’ Isabelle thought.

She wanted to tell her sister exactly what was on her mind. If she were bolder, then perhaps she would have.

But she wasn’t. So she didn’t.

“I was just… taking it all in.” She turned her gaze back to the window. “It’s my first time exploring the worlds above.”

The idea was almost foreign to Audrina when she heard it. Until she remembered why.

One of the few restrictions still placed on Nevi’im is that the general populous cannot just leave.

Due to their power and their potential to change the outcome of whole universes, it’s a rule that Asherah has never really budged on.

The only ones graced with permission to leave are those in the Bright Legions. That’s probably why entrance into the military is such a highly pursued profession.

But Audrina had been out of Tehom with her family so much that she had almost forgotten that it wasn’t commonplace.

She suddenly took her sister’s hand and held it firmly. “You should come to the house a little more. I’ll take you anywhere you want, to see whatever you want. I swear it.”

Isabelle made the mistake of meeting her sister’s gaze. She wished she hadn’t done that.

Such warmth. Such sincerity.

It almost sucked her in. And truthfully, maybe she wanted to allow it.

But she knew far better than to be that irresponsible with her heart again.

And so, she smiled back, even though she didn’t feel like it. She just had to keep up the act for a little bit longer.

“..I’ll hold you to that. I’m excited already.”

Isabelle pulled her hand away from her sister first and returned her gaze towards the window.

It was hard, but this was the way things had to be.

After this little adventure, she really hoped that she would never have to see her sister ever again.
