Mo Xiuchen laughed and stretched his arm out in front of Wen Ran, like a high and mighty king, his lips curled elegantly into a smile, watching her in silence.
Wen Ran met his smiling eyes and instantly got the message, gently lifting the sleeve in front of her onto his arm. Mo Xiuchen’s lips rose in satisfaction, and he extended his other arm too, praising her, “Ranran, you are so smart.”
She understood even without him saying it.
It must be their tacit understanding.
Wen Ran wasn’t modest either, she arched her fine eyebrows proudly and said, “Of course I am smart. I have always been.”
Just occasionally very silly, she added to herself.
...After rolling up his sleeves, Mo Xiuchen began washing the vegetables. Wen Ran wanted to help, but he wouldn’t allow it, so she just stood beside him and watched. After a while, she pulled out her phone, intending to record the process of him cooking. Although Mo Xiuchen didn’t turn to look at her, the moment she raised her phone, he smiled indulgently and said, “Ranran, are you recording this as evidence to blackmail me into cooking for you for life?”
With that, he turned around, his deep eyes intensely watching her.
Wen Ran’s face warmed up, and she retorted, “Blackmailing you to cook? I’d rather blackmail you for your money.”
“No problem,” Mo Xiuchen agreed readily. As he spoke, he freed a hand to reach into his pants pocket, pulled out his wallet, and stuffed it into her hands, “Here, Ranran, all this is for you.”
It wasn’t just about giving money; he was willing to give himself too.
Wen Ran looked at him amusingly. She was just joking, she didn’t really want his wallet. But as she looked at his wallet, her brows gently furrowed.
“Is something wrong, Ranran?”
Noticing her furrowed brow, Mo Xiuchen’s smile slightly diminished, and he asked with concern.
“This wallet, did you buy it?”
Hearing her question, Mo Xiuchen suddenly laughed, “Ranran, did you think the wallet I use was bought by Cheng Jia?”
“I haven’t seen it before,” Wen Ran said softly, her cheeks heating up—she was clearly feeling jealous.
“Ranran, I bought this wallet myself. The one Cheng Jia gave me, I threw it away. At the time, she said the wallet was mine, but I didn’t like it, so I went and bought one myself. Not just the wallet, but clothes and things like that too, I bought them myself.”
His low, gentle words moved Wen Ran once again.
“Mo Xiuchen, you are really smart.”
“Of course, if I weren’t smart, how could I have found such a cute wife like Ranran?” Mo Xiuchen’s words made Wen Ran’s already slightly red face turn scarlet. She glared at him and dropped a line, “I’m hungry, hurry up and cook,” before turning around to leave.
“Ranran, where are you going?”
Seeing her leave, Mo Xiuchen immediately asked.
“I’m going to watch TV outside for a bit.” Without turning back, Wen Ran left the kitchen and turned on the television in the living room. Sitting on the couch alone, she changed the channel to a variety show. Yet, the handsome men and beautiful women on the LCD screen couldn’t capture her gaze. Instead, her eyes were fixed on the figure in the kitchen, a back view that filled her heart with sweetness and happiness, watching quietly, tenderly, and attentively.
Meanwhile, in the coffee shop on the ground floor of the shopping mall, Cheng Jia gripped her spoon tightly, the words “After losing my memory, I fell in love with Ranran again” echoing repeatedly in her ears.
Her complexion turned from white to green, and then back from green to white.
The woman at the next table’s complaints reached her ears, “…this really isn’t my business, it’s all Wen Ran, that wicked woman, it was her who disguised herself as Bai Xiaoxiao…”
Upon hearing the name Wen Ran, Cheng Jia’s expression instantly changed, a hint of coldness flashing in her eyes, she tilted her head and looked towards the woman at the next table.
She was a young woman, holding a spoon in one hand and a phone in the other. Although it was just a profile view, Cheng Jia could clearly see the anger on her face. A sneer flickered in her heart as she withdrew her gaze and continued listening to her complaints to the person on the other end of the phone.
It seemed that there really were quite a few people in the world who hated Wen Ran.
However, Cheng Jia didn’t recognize this woman. After listening to her finish the call, Cheng Jia had a rough understanding that this woman was not here to compete for Mo Xiuchen, which provided some comfort.
Even now, she didn’t think she had lost. Her obsession with Mo Xiuchen had deepened to the point where only death could make her let go.
After pondering for a few minutes, when the woman paid and left, Cheng Jia stood up, paid her bill, and followed her out of the coffee shop to the parking lot where she caught up and called out, “Miss, please wait a moment.”
Qi Meiling was about to open her car door and get in when she heard the voice behind her. She turned around, her gaze coldly resting on Cheng Jia, she arrogantly asked, “Did you call me?”
Cheng Jia nodded with a smile, “Yes, Miss.”
Qi Meiling narrowed her eyes, scrutinizing Cheng Jia, “What do you want?”
Cheng Jia’s attitude remained very pleasant, her face smiling, her tone gentle, “Just now, I happened to overhear you on the phone, it seemed like you really despise Wen Ran.”
Qi Meiling’s expression changed instantly, a sharp look flashed in her eyes, “Do you know Wen Ran, or are you trying to speak well of her?” she asked harshly. She was frustrated to encounter people related to Wen Ran wherever she went.
“Of course not, it’s just that, like you, I also really dislike Wen Ran. If you wish to teach Wen Ran a lesson or vent in some way, I could help you. May I ask how to address you, Miss?”
Cheng Jia could tell from Qi Meiling’s clothing that she came from a wealthy family, evidently, she was a rich young lady.
She hoped the richer and more powerful Qi Meiling was, the better, having a strong background to rely on in dealing with Wen Ran.
Qi Meiling snorted disdainfully, looking at Cheng Jia, “Why should I tell you and why should I trust you.”
After saying this, she pulled open the car door, bent down to get in the car, and Cheng Jia, in a panic, instinctively reached out to grab Qi Meiling’s arm, intending to say a few more words. Unexpectedly, Qi Meiling, though appearing frail and weak, reacted swiftly by clutching her wrist back with such force that Cheng Jia cried out in pain on the spot.
“You…”
Cheng Jia’s face turned painfully pale, cold sweat rolling down her forehead, her eyes a mixture of panic, anger, shock, and numerous other emotions, all ultimately turning to pain.
Qi Meiling’s appearance and personality were absolutely contradictory. She was not as weak and harmless as she appeared. Furthermore, she had vented her anger towards Wen Ran on Cheng Jia, standing right before her.
With a crisp crack, Cheng Jia screamed again, her face deathly pale.
Qi Meiling snorted, let go of her hand, and coldly looked at Cheng Jia, who was in so much pain she couldn’t even stand straight, and scoffed, “You just said you could help me deal with Wen Ran? How laughable, you can’t even protect yourself, don’t show up in front of me again.”
