Fang Chen opened his eyes, revealing his gray-white pupils, as calm as a dead pond. “Were you the one who… injured Zhao Hu?"
The leader revealed a mocking smile. "Yes, it was me. So what if I did i—"
Pfft!
Before the leader could finish his sentence, Fang Chen’s wooden stick shot into his throat, as fast as a lightning bolt.
The leader’s eyes widened in horror, and he reached out his hands and clutched the stick tightly, disbelief written all over his face. Gurgling sounds escaped his throat, and blood and foam began to pour from his mouth and nostrils.
The commoners of Stone River County had never witnessed such a scene, their faces turning as pale as death. Some cried out in alarm, ready to report to the authorities.
"He killed someone!"
Blacksmith Zhao, his wife, and Zhao Hu's widowed wife were dumbfounded. They had never imagined that someone who usually spoke softly and never even quarreled would kill in broad daylight.
To pierce someone’s neck with just a wooden stick—what kind of skill did that take?
In the tea house not far away, Bu Qingchen’s pupils dilated sharply, shock evident in his eyes. He had known this person for many years and had never realized he had such skills!"Go! Kill him!!"
Seeing their leader get his throat pierced by Fang Chen, the black-clad men immediately shouted and surged forward with knives and weapons.
Fang Chen pulled the wooden stick out of the leader’s throat and the battle ensued.
He wielded the stick like a venomous snake poised to strike. He turned and sidestepped many times, his stick always finding its mark on the throat of a black-clad man.
However, after just a few breaths, Fang Chen began to feel fatigued, and his movements started to slow down. Several wounds inevitably appeared on his body.
Both sides were drenched in blood, the thick, metallic scent overwhelming. Some people felt nauseous and began to retch.
"He's out of strength! Kill him! If we don’t, we’ll die too! Quickly, kill him!" one of the black-clad men shouted upon seeing Fang Chen show signs of fatigue.
The others, though fearful, were clearly more afraid of what would happen to them if they retreated, gritting their teeth and charging forward.
Puff! Puff!
Two blades slashed at Fang Chen's waist, but their wielders soon had their throats pierced. They struggled briefly slumping to the ground and falling silent. As one black-clad figure after another fell, only one remained alive, standing in fear at a distance, too terrified to approach Fang Chen.
In the next second, he turned and fled.
Fang Chen’s wooden stick was already battered and broken, having lost a significant portion of its length. Even so, he used the last of his strength to swing it fiercely. A sharp piece of the stick pierced the heart of the fleeing black-clad man, causing him to stumble forward several steps before crashing to the ground, motionless.
The large street was filled with blood, and the gaps in the floorboards were soaked red. At least twenty or thirty bodies were lying in disarray.
At that moment, the people of River Stone County who recognized Fang Chen, the blind man, truly understood how terrifying this blind man's abilities were. Among the crowd, the masters and disciples of the martial arts school who had previously rejected Fang Chen's offer looked pale with fear.
As martial artists, they understood that their skills were for strengthening the body. Fang Chen’s skills, however, were clearly for killing. He didn’t do any extraneous actions. Every move he made had no extraneous actions; they were solely for the purpose of taking lives.
This kind of technique was usually only passed down in the military!
Blacksmith Zhao finally regained his senses and nudged his wife. "Quick, go check if Old Ji has been hurt!"
Fang Chen was drenched in blood, looking quite terrifying; much of it was the blood of his enemies, but there was also a significant amount of his own, making it difficult to distinguish between the two.
Blacksmith Zhao’s wife hurried over to Fang Chen’s side and noticed his pale face, causing her to be overtaken with fright. She was at a loss for what to do.
"Sister-in-law, help me sit down for a moment and ask someone to get some medicine for my wounds," said Fang Chen softly.
Blacksmith Zhao’s wife quickly assisted Fang Chen to sit by the roadside and then asked a neighbor to go buy medicine. The neighbor nodded repeatedly and hurried off to fetch it without hesitation.
At that moment, an angry shout rang out, "Who dares to commit murder in broad daylight?"
"The constables are here!"
A few breaths later, a group of constables dressed in red uniforms arrived at the scene. When they saw the situation, several young constables turned pale and began to retch.
"Boss... it seems to be your master…" one constable quickly whispered to the captain after recognizing Fang Chen.
The captain was well-built and appeared quite young. Upon hearing the reminder, he finally spotted Fang Chen, leaving him shocked. He quickly approached Fang Chen and whispered, "Master, what happened here?"
The funeral procession... the bodies strewn all over the ground... and Fang Chen’s injuries; as the captain, Liu Hao had already guessed what had transpired. However, he found it hard to imagine that his master possessed such terrifying and ruthless skills.
"Jianghu feuds. Your Senior Brother Zhao Hu was killed by them. Now they’ve come here to eliminate Zhao Hu's family and root out any potential threats." Fang Chen said lightly. "This matter has nothing to do with them; if you must arrest someone, just arrest me."
Liu Hao showed a troubled expression, while the constables behind him quietly sized up Fang Chen. Initially, they hadn’t held this blind man in much regard. In fact, in their youth, they had joked about what a blind man could teach in terms of martial arts. Some had even mocked him when they encountered Fang Chen on the road in their younger days.
Now, seeing the corpses scattered on the ground, they suddenly felt immensely fortunate.
Meanwhile, the previously retired Third Master Black, who had taken to enjoying time with his grandchildren, felt somewhat stiff.
A subordinate whispered beside him, "Third Master… it’s a good thing we didn’t continue to pursue this. Otherwise, we might have ended up dead too. What exactly is this blind man’s background? With just a stick, he killed dozens of Jianghu experts?"
"A stick… what if it were a sword? If it were a sword…"
Third Master Black murmured, "To take on dozens of Jianghu experts, kill them, and still remain unharmed… such skills could at least rank among the top three in the world, right? This is a master!"
Hearing Black Third Master say this, several old associates shivered in fright. Their gazes toward Fang Chen now carried a hint of reverence.
At that moment, Bu Qingchen walked over. He was alone. "Brother Ji, you’re truly too impulsive. Is there anything that can’t be discussed calmly? Your reckless slaughter makes it difficult for us to clean up the aftermath."
Bu Qingchen looked at Liu Hao, clasped his fist, and smiled, "Captain Liu, this is a matter of Jianghu, which is quite common. I suggest we send these corpses to the charity burial ground first, and we can discuss the rest later, how does that sound?"
Liu Hao nodded gently. "Since Head Bu has said so, I naturally must give this face. Besides, this group of Jianghu people came to Stone River County armed without notifying anyone, which is a breach of protocol."
"Captain, this… this token might not be simple…"
Suddenly, a constable pulled a token from the body of the leader and quickly presented it.
Liu Hao and Bu Qingchen exchanged a glance, their expressions changing dramatically.
Bu Qingchen stammered, then turned and left. "I… I have matters to attend to; I’ll take my leave first…"
Liu Hao hesitated for a few moments, his expression gradually darkening. He signaled the constables to take Fang Chen into custody. "Master… let’s go back to the station together, shall we?"
Blacksmith Zhao’s eyes widened in shock. "Captain Liu, you trained under Ji Brother; how dare you!"
Liu Hao shot him a glance and coldly replied, "This matter has nothing to do with you. You shouldn’t meddle in it."
"Brother Zhao, he’s right; this matter doesn’t concern you," Fang Chen said indifferently. "You all continue sending Little Hu on his last journey; Don’t worry about me."
Seeing Fang Chen being taken away, slightly unsteady on his feet, Blacksmith Zhao’s eyes filled with tears, and he finally shouted softly, "Continue on the way!"
