Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 1220: Dimension (4)

Lucian watched closely as the Void Master cut through his attack as if they were nothing. Most mages could not do that because his magic's piercing nature could easily destroy their weapon. So far, the only ones who could withstand his attack were the dragons. However, even they suffered from the aftereffects.

Lucian found the Void Master's effortless cutting of his magic fascinating. The latter was a little slow, which resulted in most of Lucian's attacks hitting successfully. But those few attacks that the Void Master intercepted were cleanly cut through.

'...His defense... can't be underestimated either,' Lucian thought, noticing the Void Master's unscathed armor. Most of Lucian's attacks hit the Void Master, yet the latter's armor remained intact. That was something Lucian found interesting.

Could it be that the Void Master focused more on defensive spells instead of offensive?

This question came to Lucian because, so far, the Void Master had only been avoiding or enduring his attacks. Though the latter's sword could cut through his magic, that might not be the latter's magic but the weapon's ability.

Those swords were pretty good, in Lucian's opinion. Unfortunately, the Void Master's combat ability did not bring it to justice because he sucked.

Considering all these, Lucian was inclined to think that the Void Master was more of a defense mage.

If Kyran knew what Lucian was thinking, he might start flipping at True Void. Kyran was a combat specialist who could barely be considered a combat mage, given his recent magic experience. But because of True Void's pathetic combat display, Lucian thought he was a defense-focused mage. It was pretty insulting to Kyran, to be honest.

Then again, this misunderstanding might also be a good thing for Kyran. At least Lucian did not figure out Kyran's combat ability.

All of Lucian's misunderstandings could be accounted to him believing that True Void was the real Void Master and that Kyran was an essence. As Kyran guessed, Lucian thought this because True Void had more magic energy than him.

But then, even if Lucian thought Kyran was an essence, he never not paid much attention to him.

While Lucian was observing True Void, he was also paying enough attention to Kyran's movements. The only reason he did not make any moves against him was because he wanted to see what he was up to.

Deus frowned as he noticed Kyran approaching Ruin. He scowled and shouted, "What the hell is he planning?"

On the other hand, Kyran already got close to Ruin and greeted with a short warning, "Duck."

"!"

Fortunately, Ruin moved well instinctively. The moment Kyran called him out, he followed his warning and ducked. As he did, the defense-type automaton, about to slam its shield on him from behind, missed. Before Ruin could straighten up, Kyran closed the gap between them with one arm reaching out.

Ruin initially thought Kyran intended to smack the automaton's face to smithereens. But then he realized that the latter's outreached hand was wide open.

Crackling sounds could be heard from Kyran's palm as a Void magic array— something Ruin had never seen him do before— appeared a few centimeters from his palm. The color of the magic array was dark purple with a tinge of gold and silver, making Ruin wonder if the runes on them were pure Void or accompanied by another.

However, Ruin rejected his latter's thought because, as far as they knew, Ancient Magic users could not use other magic. There were times when Kyran had used different magic, apart from Draconic magic. But Ruin knew that rather than casting those magic using magic arrays, Kyran used arrays he created beforehand.

For that, Ruin found Kyran's ability to find a way to counteract his weakness very entertaining. He would not have considered the latter his prey if not for that. RἈNÒΒËṢ

In any case, Ruin soon realized what Kyran intended to do when he approached him. Rather than help destroy Deus's automatons, Kyran planned to get him under his control.

Crackle! Sizzle! Sizzle!

The magic array on Kyran's palm sank into the defense-type automaton's armor. Like a virus, the moment the magic array entered the automaton's armor, dark purple runes spread over its surface.

Rattle! Rattle! Cackle! Clang! Clang!

The defense-type automaton made rattling sounds, followed by some disturbing ones that seemed to have been caused by its internal structure collapsing. Of course, Ruin knew the automaton's internal structure would not collapse because it would beat the purpose of Kyran wanting to use it for himself.

"STOP!"

Deus suddenly screamed from afar as he felt his connection with one of his automatons disappear.

Lucian noticed this as well and frowned.

Defense-type mages were called Abjurers. That was one of the mage classes when The Realm was still intact. However, after The Fall, those mage classes no longer mattered because there were too many powerful and talented mages in the Higher Realm. They were also born with the strength of a Sovereign and already possessed a class.

Thus, some of them would adapt or form another class depending on their fighting style.

Anyway, Lucian was reminded of the Abjurer class from observing the Void Master. Apart from being good with defense-type magic, they were also very good at Array.

Seeing Deus react to what the Void Master's essence did to his automaton, Lucian guessed that the latter was also proficient in Array. The Void Master might even be more talented than Deus if he managed to do something with Deus's automaton.

'Is this what you are betting on?' Lucian wondered as he finally looked at the Void Master's essence.

[Void Halfling!]

True Void warned Kyran as he noticed Lucian losing some of his interest in him. Although the latter kept manipulating the surrounding magic energies into summoning light explosives and blades, seeing he was no longer paying much attention was enough to deduce this. Find adventures on empire

Kyran frowned after receiving True Void's warning. The magic energy around them shifted before he could react to it fully. He knew at once that they would be in big trouble if he did not deploy a Void Barrier at once.

"Damn it!"

Fortunately, Ruin seemed to have fully allied himself with Kyran and True Void and deployed his version of a 'defensive spell.'

A red tinge light formed around Ruin and Kyran, turning them into red-colored people, just as the shifting of magic energy around them was completed.

Several light gold chains with sharp blades on their ends sprang out from the ground and circled Ruin and Kyran. These chains would have pierced their bodies and kept them in their position if not for the red light summoned by Ruin.

The red light was actually the same magic attack Ruin used that ruined anything its light touched. This time, he tweaked the arrangement of its magic array so that it would not ruin anything inside and, instead, reject anything from the outside.

With the red light protecting them, the light gold chains could only wrap themselves around its edges, unable to slip past it.

Kyran looked at Ruin wryly. He found the latter a pain in the ass as an enemy, but as an ally, he was very dependable.

Knowing it was too soon to feel relieved, Kyran put aside any unnecessary thoughts and focused on the automaton around them.

Because Deus's defense-type automatons were pretty good at keeping Ruin within their range, all three were within the range of the red light. Since Ruin changed the effect of the red light, those automatons were also kept intact.

Having dealt with one of the three automatons, Kyran turned his attention toward the second one approaching from above their heads.

The automaton raised the shield in one of his hands while striking the sword on his other down at Kyran and Ruin.

Kyran spread his arms with both palms open. Void magic arrays appeared on each of his palms, and he reached out his right at the approaching automaton while aiming the left to his side, where the other was charging with its shield facing forward.

Contrary to Ruin's expectation that Kyran would rush toward the automaton from above before charging at the last one to their side, the latter thrust his hands and let the two magic arrays drift toward their intended targets.

The two defense-type automatons failed to avoid Kyran's magic arrays. Even if they could, they would not be able to. This was because Kyran included a homing rune in the magic arrays, making it hard for their targets to avoid. They could try and destroy them before they landed. However, that would also be impossible because the magic array was made entirely with Void magic.

The two Void magic arrays successfully embedded themselves into the defense-type automatons, and like what happened to the first one, void runes spread all over the surface of their armor soon after.

Outside the red light, Deus no longer dared to be complacent after losing his connection to the remaining automatons. He summoned one of his main automatons and rushed toward Ruin.

On the other hand, Lucian also knew it was unwise to give the Void Master and Ruin any small gap they could exploit. Thus, he finally released the full extent of his magic pressure.
