Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 1246: Convalesce (3)

Intense magic fluctuations could be felt several miles away from a lone forgotten plane at the far end of the Higher Realm. Dark red and yellow lights flashed from time to time as the fluctuation intensified with each passing moment.

A massive array formation glowed fiercely at the center of the forgotten plane as the magic energies in the surroundings gathered around it. Two distinct figures could be seen inside the formation, one sitting cross-legged and the other lying motionless.

The former wore a black robe with black and gray mists swirling around it, while the latter wore a white robe and a trailing fur coat that covered it.

The figures were none other than Estrid and One Who Caused the Fall.

Judging by Estrid's pale complexion and weak breath, she was on the verge of death. From the runes glowing on the formation that focused on transferring formulas, One Who Caused the Fall's intention was evident. He intended to take over Estrid's body or transfer his remnants into her body.

Whether Estrid survived or not, only the One Who Caused the Fall would know. But if taking over her body was his only intention, he would not have gone through all the trouble of creating such a massive array formation with overlapping intricate formulas.

Because of the plane's location, no matter how flashy the magic activity happening, there was no one to witness it. The closest plane was several thousands of miles away, which, to be honest, could not be considered close anymore.

In any case, the situation there was still unknown, and the patrolling members of the Solis Clan scattered all over the Higher Plane rarely checked that area because there was nothing to see. This was precisely the reason the plane was considered 'forgotten.'

While the One Who Caused the Fall was busy performing his ritual involving Estrid, another group was busy completing a different array formation at a different location.

The location was the unnamed plane. It was far from being called forgotten, but because it was located on the boundaries between the Blade Dancer Clan's and the Ogen Clan's territories, no outsider could possibly notice the fierce magic activity there.

Even the patrolling members of the Solis Clan did not venture into that area simply because they were unaware of the two clans' territorial boundaries.

One would think that the fall of the Blade Dancer Clan would have prompted the Solis Clan to claim their territory. But contrary to that, they did not touch it. It was not because they were uninterested but because their priority at this moment was searching for the new Void Master's traces. Because of this, they mostly wandered around the area near the Crepuscule Auction House, where the latter was last seen.

The array formation was a defensive array to protect the unnamed plane. Since most of the structures of the new stronghold of the Blade Dancer Clan were completed, they could now focus on creating the array formation that would protect the whole plane.

Initially worried about the materials required in creating complex array formation and completing the rest of the structures that Kyran needed, the appearance of Marigold and the surviving members of the Crepuscule Clan resolved it in an instant.

Kyran, Ruin, Shiloh, and Zigor met with Marigold and the rest of her clan's elders to discuss the details of their partnership.

Marigold did not ask for much, only that Kyran protect her clan's future. Though her request sounded vague, Kyran was able to understand it well. In a sense, it was similar to what he was trying to achieve for his clan.

With so many unexpected things happening in the Higher Realm that started in the Lower Realm because of the reappearance of the Ancient Magic Cores, the future of both realms had become uncertain.

The Fates' influence had been threatened, and Kyran did not know what ploys they were concocting at the very moment. Nonetheless, he decided to persist in his initial goal of overthrowing Lucian's rule.

To be honest, Kyran's goal was too vague. Because overthrowing Lucian's rule did not mean his clan's future would be secure. As long as the matter about the Realm of the Scion continued to plague the older generation and they coveted the Ancient Magic Cores the Ancients created, both realms would continue to suffer similar cycles throughout future generations.

Moreover, there was still the threat of the War of the Sovereigns in the Lower Realm that Kyran had yet to stop. The problem with that threat was that he had no idea how it would happen, who would initiate it, or how to stop it.

As far as the system works for both realms, the War of the Sovereigns was necessary for the survival of the Lower Realm. Without it, the magic energy in that realm would not be able to sustain all the planes and the still-being-generated-new-planes.

For the record, unlike the Higher Realm, which had a fixed number of planes, new planes continued to form in the Lower Realm from the remnant pieces of planes from The Fall. This would not have been a problem if not for the Lower Realm's limited magic energy circulation, making it hard to sustain all its planes. ȓἁɴƟ฿Е𐌔

If the Lower Realm did not reduce the number of planes in its realm, the current planes would slowly suffer as the magic energy channeled into them would be reduced.

Kyran wondered if the War of the Sovereigns could be postponed as long as the Lower Realm stopped generating new planes. With that in mind, he asked Axil and Loar to experiment on that when he returned to the Human plane more than a month ago.

Kyran had yet to know the result of Axil and Loar's experiment. But he expected to wield some results somehow.

Putting aside those matters in the Lower Realm, Kyran's goal somehow changed. He still did not intend to become the Realm Scion, but he wanted to learn why the Fates instigated The Fall.

There must be a reason for their actions. They were meant to oversee the fates of every being in The Realm, so why did they suddenly change their minds and overstep their authority?

Going back to Marigold's request, Kyran had no qualms about it and agreed. In turn, to protect her clan's future, they would provide him with every assistance they could offer. From intel to resources.

Shiloh and Zigor were surprised when they heard Marigold. It went without saying that the intel network of the Crepuscule Clan was the best in the Higher Realm. If they possessed that network, they would have the advantage of knowing their enemy in-depth.

However, Marigold did confirm that given their status at the moment, where they had to hide from The Emperor, her clan could not update the information in their network. Until they found an efficient and hidden way to move around the realm, they could not update their intel database.

That was where Ruin stepped in. He offered to use his merchant clan as the Crepuscule Clan's cover to move around the realm. Seeing the feasibility of his proposal, Marigold was okay with it. However, she wanted to know what Ruin wanted from them first.

To Marigold's surprise, Ruin only shrugged over her question.

In the end, Ruin only told them that he only had two goals after returning to the Higher Realm: kill The Emperor and eat his prey, which was Kyran.

When everyone heard the latter, they could not help but look at Kyran tentatively. However, the latter only gave Ruin a blank look.

Marigold, the fox elders, Shiloh, and Zigor did not know if Ruin was joking. But if Kyran did not show any reaction, then there was no reason for them to overthink.

After concluding the partnership between Kyran's group and the Crepuscule Clan, they did not waste any moment and started with their preparation.

In the Dragon Plane, Geir and Uilleam had already arrived and were greeted by Ducal.

The Dragon Clan was already aware of the Blade Dancer Clan's situation, so they had somehow mellowed down before them.

Of course, that did not mean that they trust them entirely now. Kyran might have taken them in, but given their loyalty to the Solis Clan, they could not trust them completely. Not that there was a need for both to trust each other. After all, the ones connected with them at that moment were the Regis Family.

Geir and Uilleam's reason for going there was to relay Kyran's message to his Servants and Sigils.

Kyran's message mainly involved Gael. This was because, among his Servants, the latter was the one whose innate magic complemented the Void well.

In fact, when the gate that connected the two Regis Terrams in both realms was created, Gael's magic energy played a critical role in stabilizing it.

Before Kyran, Cyneah, and Alta left for the Crepuscule Auction House, Kyran had already opened the portal leading to the Tower of the Ancients so the Regis members could start training there. However, Kyran knew that the portal's stability would waver if he did not continuously feed it with his energy.

That was where Gael would come in. Using the device Kyran recently created, it would filter Gael's magic energy to emit only the Void to sustain the portal.
