MMORPG: Rise of the Primordial Godsmith
Chapter 1447 - 1447: Myriad Prodigies: First Round - Valyr (5)“…Well then. It seems Ylvar’s reputation isn’t unfounded.”
Although her attention was split over all of the participants that were undertaking the test of mentality, the woman spared a bit more attention towards Valyr’s pedestal.
After all, if most of the audience already knew of the young man’s feats before the start of the tournament, then it went without saying that she was privy towards it as well.
In fact, it was due to these same feats that caused her to be left at a slight loss for words the moment Valyr started his attempt the test.
‘Just as he entered the illusion realm I’ve created, the first pillar was already faintly lit up,’ thought the woman to herself, her expression pensive as she watched the light of the second pillar beginning to flicker.
‘That means he’s already detached his consciousness from the illusion the very moment he entered, a telltale sign of a powerful mind.’
‘Then, in just a bit over an hour, the first pillar was fully lit, which meant that he’d broken the first illusion and moved onto the second one.’
‘…Compared to how the other participants fared, Ylvar has definitely broken through the first illusion the fastest,’ said the woman to herself inwardly, sweeping her gaze over all the participants once more to ascertain their progress.
However, just as she thought she’d be greeted by the same sight once her gaze fell on Valyr’s pedestal, the woman’s eyes instead widened in shock and disbelief.
“What?!”
Whoosh!
In just a couple of minutes after breaking through the first illusion, the second pillar on the young man’s pedestal was fully lit, only for the third pillar to become fully lit a few minutes after that.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Within the span of a half hour, the number of pillars that were lit up on Valyr’s pedestal went from one to six, meaning that the young man had broken through each illusion in just five minutes!
“That’s impossible…” muttered the woman, her jaw loose from the immense disbelief she felt.
Doing yet another sweep on the progress of the other participants in the area, she decided to focus her entire attention on Valyr’s pedestal for the meantime, infusing her mana into it to check whether the young man had used a loophole of some sort to speed through the illusions.
However, after checking through every part of the pedestal, she instead found out that he had broken through the six illusions in what she considered as the hardest way possible.
…Relying on sheer mental strength to brute force his way out of the illusion.
“If he were part of the Illusionist Guild and relied on his mental strength and illusion breaking techniques to achieve such progress through the trial, then I might have only thought of him as talented.”
As these words left the woman’s mouth, she glanced at Valyr once more as her eyes began to glisten with excitement. “But to break through all these illusions with just sheer mental strength…”
“Rather than his reputation being unfounded… it’s more like it understates what he’s capable of.”
Double checking to make sure he hadn’t used any cheat whatsoever to swiftly progress through the test, the woman eventually moved her attention away from Valyr’s pedestal, returning her focus back to all of the participants in the area.
However, every once in a while, she would still glance at Valyr, not wanting to miss the moment the next pillar lit up.
“At this rate, it wouldn’t surprise me if he breaks through the 8th illusion… perhaps even the 9th illusion.”
Continuing to mutter such words to herself, the woman eventually began to shake her head. “Man… It would be a waste not to rope him into the Illusionist Guild.”
“Even if he learns the basics of illusions, he’ll probably become the most terrifying illusionist throughout Veldanyr’s history.”
“…”
“…We’ll see, I guess.”
…
“…Six down, three more to go.”
Whoosh!
Spreading out his willpower throughout the entire space once more, Valyr easily broke through his sixth illusion in a row, transporting him to yet another world that invoked a different feeling from deep within him.
“At this point, I now have a rough idea of what feelings each illusion is focusing on.”
As these words left his mouth, a large yet desolate city greeted him, filled to the brim with people of various ages wearing clothes made out of rags.
‘The Desolate Megalopolis of Gahaman…’
‘To think I’d be able to see this shithole of a place again before I regain the ability to traverse outer space.’
From what he could recall from his memories, the megalopolis before him was just a place he stopped by in his journey to a different galaxy, hoping to use it as an opportunity to replenish his reserves before heading out once more.
However, even though he hadn’t done anything wrong while within the world of the megalopolis, all of its citizens instead showed immense hostility towards him, with every waking moment he moved through the megalopolis containing multiple attempts to claim his life.
“Thankfully, there’s no hostility from the citizens this time around,” muttered the young man to himself, moving through the megalopolis with a hint of wariness in his step.
“However, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing odd about them.”
Continuing to walk through the megalopolis, the wariness he felt only intensified, especially once he took note of the way the citizens of the place were looking at him.
In his eyes, it seemed as if they looked at him as some sort of valuable treasure that would take them to the heavens in a single step.
And with that, it did not take long for the feeling being invoked by the illusion to show itself.
“It’s greed this time, huh.”
Feeling an immense desire to covet everything in his surroundings all of a sudden, a wry smile appeared on Valyr’s face as he began to spread out his mental strength throughout the world once more.
“First, it was wrath. Then came envy, lust, pride, gluttony, and sloth.”
“The seven deadly sins…” muttered the young man, his expression indifferent as he watched the massive city start to crumble under his willpower.
“I wonder…”
“What kind of feeling would have I to endure in the final illusion?”
