BANG!
Long Chen tumbled into the distance, crashing into the ground with such force that a massive crater formed around him.
Above, Long Zhantian watched silently, his expression unreadable. The Jewel Blood Devil finally ceased its assault and retracted its devil flames.
Moments later, Long Chen woke up. With a deep breath, he pushed himself up and staggered forward. Despite the pain, he straightened his back and walked toward his father.
“Your child is weak,” Long Chen admitted, his voice filled with shame. “Please give me pointers, Father.”
A smile tugged at Long Zhantian’s lips. “You did well. To have endured this long against Jewel’s attacks far exceeded my expectations.”
Pausing for a moment, Long Zhantian asked, “Did you understand anything?”
Long Chen’s gaze turned sharp. “I’m too slow. The tempo of battle was completely under Senior Jewel’s control. I was reacting rather than dictating. Losing was only a matter of time.”
“So, do you have a countermeasure?”
“We’ll know if I try again.”Without hesitation, Long Chen stomped forward, his figure turning into a blur as he swung Evilmoon at the Jewel Blood Devil. At the same time, the Violet Dragon Battle Armor materialized around him.
Long Zhantian couldn’t help but smile.
He chuckled, “This brat!”
He had intended to guide Long Chen before another round, but it seemed his son had already grasped something on his own. Rather than waiting for instruction, Long Chen acted immediately, throwing himself back into battle.
Despite his earlier injuries—his bones crushed by the Jewel Blood Devil’s devastating strike—Long Chen was already fully healed. The Jewel Blood Devil had clearly held back, and his core energy remained untouched since he had never been able to use it.
This time, Long Chen took the initiative to attack. Evilmoon danced, unleashing powerful streaks of Saber Qi.
The Jewel Blood Devil’s body was as tough as iron, so it didn’t fear Long Chen’s attacks. However, Long Chen’s wild dragon blood power still forced it back step by step.
However, while Long Chen dominated the first ten exchanges, the tide soon shifted. The Jewel Blood Devil reclaimed control, pressing him back with monstrous strength. Just as Long Chen was about to be overwhelmed again, he suddenly thrust out his left hand.
A cross-shaped rune gleamed on his palm, and he slammed it into the Jewel Blood Devil’s claw.
Long Zhantian instantly tensed when he saw Long Chen try to block the Jewel Blood Devil’s claw barehanded. After all, he knew the power of this claw was enough to blow his son apart.
Just as Long Zhantian was about to interfere, he spotted the cross on Long Chen’s hand.
Just as he hesitated, the Jewel Blood Devil was sent flying by the attack. The immense power within the cross left its claw torn and bloody—a rare sight for such an indomitable creature.
Long Chen took the chance to reclaim the initiative and unleash a tempest of attacks. However, the Jewel Blood Devil was truly too strong. In just a few breaths, the tide turned once again. Long Chen's strikes, though fierce, barely affected it.
Under the Jewel Blood Devil’s tempest of attacks, the same situation played out. Forced into a defensive stance, Long Chen struggled to keep up. An hour later, he was once more sent flying and knocked out.
The Jewel Blood Devil exhaled slowly before speaking. “This son of yours is very strong. From beginning to end, his heart did not waver. His will remained as firm as a boulder. I attempted multiple times to disturb his mind using secret arts, but none had any effect.”
“How could the son of Long Zhantian be a weakling?” Long Zhantian smiled with pride.
The Jewel Blood Devil studied him for a moment before speaking again. “Still, having a Heaven Saint battle me—don’t you think that’s too cruel? Are you not afraid of his Dao-heart crumbling?”
“My son might be young, but he has experienced more in his life than you can imagine. His Dao-heart is unshakable, and you don’t need to worry about it,” Long Zhantian said, his gaze unwavering. “Cruel? Perhaps. But I have no choice. Before I see his mother, I must pass everything I know to him. If I don’t do it now, I won’t get another chance.”
“Why not?” The Jewel Blood Devil was baffled, its eyes turning to Long Zhantian.
With a voice tinged with bitterness, Long Zhantian replied, “The affairs of the human race are beyond your understanding.”
The Jewel Blood Devil observed him in silence before asking, “Are you... afraid of your wife?”
Long Zhantian chuckled, his laughter laced with nostalgia. “Yes. Very afraid. If she saw me putting our son through this torment, she might kill me.”
A distant look crossed Long Zhantian’s face as the image of his wife filled his mind. When Long Chen was born, Long Zhantian wanted him to be a legendary hero—an existence so powerful it could shake the heavens and earth. To manifest this dream, he carved an inscription on Long Chen's jade pendant:
The dragon roars at the heavens, looking down arrogantly upon the mortal world of dust.
That was his wish—his blessing for his son.
But when his wife saw it, she had taken the pendant and carefully added her own inscription:
Live peacefully and happily, never to be parted.
Their two lines ended up not matching each other very well. At that time, Long Zhantian had grumbled a bit. But looking back, he realized the depth of her understanding. A mother who had carried a child understood the true essence of life far more deeply than any man.
What was the point of omnipotent power? Of standing above all others? If given a choice, he would have preferred a simple, peaceful life—to be an ordinary man, living in quiet happiness with his wife and son. He could enjoy those years of family love.
But fate was cruel. The world offered no such choices. The path he had chosen had no return. And so, he had to push forward with everything he had.
His wife had wished for an ordinary life, for their son to be free from the burdens of his lineage. Thus, once they reunited, she would never allow Long Chen to continue down this path of war. This was why Long Zhantian had no time to waste. Before that moment arrived, he had to pass down everything he knew. Even if it was a bit cruel, he had to harden his heart.
When Long Chen woke for the second time, he said nothing. Without hesitation, he charged at the Jewel Blood Devil once more. Each battle was a lesson; each loss was an opportunity to refine himself.
Although he was defeated time and again, he never complained. He never called it unfair. Every fall was followed by a rise, every failure by renewed determination. And with every battle, his strength grew.
What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.
Long Chen embodied this principle with every fiber of his being. After all, his skills were honed through hardship, and his flaws appeared when he took it easy.
Long Zhantian watched in both admiration and sorrow. His son had suffered far more than any person his age should have. Yet, despite the pain, he never wavered.
As Long Chen continued challenging the Jewel Blood Devil, the creature gradually increased its power. And yet, Long Chen’s endurance only grew. He adapted, learning to exploit the tiniest openings to disrupt the devil’s rhythm and buy time for him to take a breath.
The rate of Long Chen’s growth shocked Long Zhantian and the Jewel Blood Devil. After every battle, Long Chen assimilated more experience and used it to come up with crazy ideas.
What truly set him apart, however, was that whatever he dared to imagine, he dared to attempt. Even if an idea failed, he refused to let fear hold him back.
BOOM!
Long Chen and Evilmoon were sent tumbling once more. Blood sprayed from his mouth, but his eyes burned with unyielding spirit.
Wiping the blood from his lips, he prepared to charge again. But before he could move, the void quivered.
A massive shadow loomed over them as an enormous entity flew overhead. Then, unexpectedly, it circled back.
A voice rang out.
“Two humans and a devil? What a curious combination.”
