Chapter 2034: Boot Camp -Part 3

But speaking of Portal 6, the Trainees were having a hell of a time and that was in a literal sense compared to it being something that was to be joyful about. They realised it was not so easy to reach the bottom of the ocean bed to mine the items. They did not have the magic to sustain a deep dive and even if they did, there were monster encounters that they needed to contend with as well.

From Half Mutated Sharks with hardened skins to a school of fishes that were willing to lessen the trainees into mere bones. Maybe that was just the best case scenario, the worst case was where a single speck of bone dust was not even available.

And to make things worse, the pressure they were under from the deep dive to the ocean bed was causing some of them to nearly lose their consciousness if not for Number 8’s experience with the sea.

This gave a conundrum to the trainees because they were battered and tired, and yet giving up was not an option unless they killed themselves. Yet, Number 2 reminded them that the contract they had signed had a clause where death was not an option. Because if they willingly choose death, the King will sentence everyone to die as well.

There were personal interests at stake for the entire group and they had no choice but to make sure no one could die from the training at all. Even if they do, they had to convince the King that it was an accident but with the Magic screen that Jin had employed, there was no way they could cheat him unless they were all on board with killing someone.

Still, the King was not someone they might be able to bluff. When they felt his magical presence, it did not feel pure like a native young mage. The aura was filled with killing intent that was so seasoned that it felt as if a full grown dragon was pushing its feet toward them and the breath of its flame was ever ready to be blown toward them.

Even the food that they caught had lots of problems. Some of the trainees did not have the appetite to eat it raw and the use of magic to create heat and fire was a waste of magic in their opinion. Not to mention, the constant rocking of the ship could not give them any proper rest at all.

It was more than they had bargained for when they heard about the 100 gold coin reward. They never expected it to be so difficult nor were they being prepped for this. And to make things worse, they assumed that it was training for just 2 weeks, not 2 weeks or more.

Apparently, they did not read nor listen to the prints properly and that was their fault since Questo followed Jin’s advice to the dot and ensured that their guild employees had spoken verbally for each of them to hear. .c

The clause stated that it was either 2 weeks or until the course was completed or else they would not receive the 100 gold at all. Only when Number 1 told them about this clause that they start to despair.

It seemed like aside from Number 1, the rest of the Trainees were not ’properly’ informed since it was highly likely that they were in their own world of greed when it came to the reward of 100 gold.

And it was rightly so for them to think this way mainly due to the fact that they had been deemed as losers, with such low levels of magic powers. This was precisely the reason why they were all struggling right now. Their low levels of magic and the physique that they had were not equipped to survive in this situation.

So, the Trainees had no choice but to work together to ensure their own survival, or else they would have a problem achieving the goal that they wanted. In fact, a lot of them felt that this particular training would be repeated again since there was no way they could mine up to 100kg of metal ore, let alone a specific metal ore that looked red in colour.

But even with such a predicament, they still grind their teeth and go through doing as much as possible. Only in the third week, they started to get the hang of it and were able to start mining for the ore. Number 6 apparently found a way to synthesize a shorter enchantment that was more efficient when it came to magic usage.

This enabled them to move to the depths of the ocean seabed unhindered by the extreme usage of magic to keep themselves alive. Some even had some to spare when it came to mining and they did what they could before bringing it up to the surface for collection.

That was when the group of trainees ultimately decided they would use this opportunity to increase their efficiency in mining since the group understood that they would fail this training and would be asked to redo it. And that was what had happened.

At the end of that ’one month’, they came out of the dungeon portal all drenched and depressed by the abysmal amount of stones that was collected. Jin saw that and sighed.

"Are you all ready for your punishment?" Jin asked and the rest nodded their heads in despair. Some had the feeling of saying out that it was unfair but the oppressive feeling even without Jin’s magical aura pressing them had given them fear. Explore more stories with .com

"Good. 2000kg in one month." Jin said as he threw two bags in front of them. "These are from Portal 4. Best quality of the lot." When Number 4 opened to take a look at it, he realised they were fruits and vegetables. But the more intriguing portion was that there were actually scrolls hidden in between the fruits and vegetables.

Jin also threw another two bags and a stack of wood planks using his Maqi towards them as well. "I assume the ship might need some repairs too. So, I will add three more days as part of the repair schedule. Now go in and get me those metals."

Soon, the Trainees acknowledged and they reluctantly entered the sea portal to fight against the seas. Jin laughed a little as he knew that he was practically cheating them for that two weeks time frame. The time compression magic was running consistently and they merely spent 2 hours of their time for a month’s worth of time inside the portal.

He felt that if it was mere seconds in Jin’s world as compared to this world’s five years timeline, he knew that the time disparity could be increased further with time compression.

And with this, Jin was also training his time compression magic to the point where there was an achievement from the System as well. "Achievement Unlock: Time Might Wait For Some Men."

This was where Jin continued to do the same after the time limit had passed and they still could not achieve the target. Simultaneously, Jin could already see some changes to their body and their magic powers.

Because they were always in constant danger, their body got attuned to it and adapted to the raging sea conditions, their physical condition and stamina had improved drastically and their ability to handle the water pressure was getting better every single day.

It was to the point where they could mine for a few hours a day inside the portal before ascending, showing improvement in their magical capability as well. In the meantime, they started to create a system where they could rest, work, and do minor chores as well as guard duty etc. It did not take long for them to understand and optimise their duties.

All of them were innovating on the go and improving the system they were in to handle all the problems they were facing. It was to the point where Jin had considered adding new things to the sea portal but decided not to because he would feel it was a little unfair now that they had stabilised themselves. He did, however, insert more Maqi to cause the winds and seas to be more dangerous than usual.

Thus, when they finished the scheduled time and returned from the portal most of them felt a little more confident than usual to finish the training with extra difficulty again. Jin gave them the very same materials with a little more wood planks than usual and they went through the training once more.

This time, Jin had inserted ice Maqi into the equation forcing the weather to not only be rainy, windy, and full of unpredictable waves but also adding the element of cold into it. There were some hailstorms and blizzard winds that were also taking a toll on their mission.

Fortunately, they persisted and were able to finish it in time with 3000kg worth of red iron. They had no idea how they had done it or never understood how the ship was able to hold this much load but they managed to clear it with an hour remaining on their duration. For the first time in the past few months, their smiles were the widest when Jin clapped continuously upon seeing the results.

"You maggots finally did some good for mining this much. Finally, you get to be productive in your training." Jin said as he magically made all that ore disappear almost immediately because they were taking too much space. If not for the basement to be big enough to hold an auditorium of people, he would not have asked for that much ore to be mined.

It was even a miracle that they could complete this impossible task that he set. He originally wanted them to learn more about themselves and wanted them to coordinate among themselves. He never realised that the ship was able to hold that much ore in the first place and they could bring back this much too and with time to spare!

But credit must be given when credit is due. Jin could see through the magic eye in an accelerated video format where the trainees used whatever magic spells they could try to weave to get things done. Even if they had to strain their magic capabilities, they needed to use it to the point where survival was a priority.

Unlike the carpenters in portal 6 who thought they had it hard to fix the ships, the trainees who had no knowledge of ship maintenance had to use whatever magic they could conjure to make sure that it came true for them. Otherwise that small hole in the ship will become bigger or the whale monster that rammed into their ship would have done it for them and they will fail the mission.

That was why Jin clapped once again and asked them to enter the portal at the very middle of the basement. Seeing they did not dare to disobey his orders, they quickly moved in to find themselves in a secluded grassfield with nothing in sight beyond the horizon with the exception of the bright moonlight shining upon them.

They finally realised what it was. The fresh gentle air continue to blow and it confirmed them that this was place of respite for the day and to get over the sensation of the sea that they had spent 3 months in there. After all, being in the sea with shaky floors for too long, they might feel landsick for a while.

And Jin gave them a day off to build their tents, cook their food, and rest for the day.

The trainees deserved that at the very least. The only thing they did not know was that Jin was still running the time compression magic and they were merely resting for a minute within the portal before they came out. But till that one minute was over, the trainees had their rest before being subjected to another series of ordeals.
