Chapter 2213: Operation Dreaded Winter -Part 5The Star Foxes who had received Half Ghoul Lord Derek's powers finally had the capability to control the zombies for the price of losing a random portion of their body. Some might have their legs or hands zombified while others were a little unlucky in having their tongues or eyes taken away but it was not as bad as they thought it would be.
Derek told them that they would retain the function of those parts that had been zombified but the difference was the undead process would cause some sluggish movements in those parts. Hygiene is an utmost importance and nothing cannot be fixed with some magic. So, if one so desire, they can consistently pour energy or magic into their undead part to make it seem like they were still a human again.
The problem with that would be how much magic were they willing to maintain. Were they going for mere aesthetics or are they putting in more magic to ensure that they could have the same functions as it was prior to the sacrifice? Regardless of the choices, the Star Foxes that had been bestowed such zombification by the Half Ghoul Lord were now bona fide necromancers.
Their ability to summon zombies had quickened, and the power to control the zombies' direction was also amplified to a higher extent so it was not too bad of a trade off. This had enabled the direction of the fight to be much more in the favour of the Star Foxes. The Southern Kingdom initially had the upper hand in the fights with their skirmishes with the zombies, especially with the White Flames supporting them but it all changed.
Soon, the zombies were taking over border towns with much more ease and that hindered the White Flames from intercepting them. This was because, unlike the time when the zombie horde would stay in one particular area for a long time before moving out, the Star Foxes and Half Ghoul Lord Derek had made them work more than just overtime. Each time they had decimated the forces within the bordering town to about 10% of the population left, the horde would scatter and move to in multiple directions to confuse the remaining witnesses.
While in actual fact, there were actually a bulk of zombies who had already moved out to another town when the military forces of that particular town had taken care of them. It was just that in the midst of chaos, no one was able to focus on the fact that the zombies were already on the move to another town. That was why when the White Flames reached to eliminate the remnant zombies within the town to save their brethren, the eyewitness was not able to give a proper answer as to where they were going.
Not to mention, the Star Foxes had purposely used magic to scatter the tracks the horde left so as to further confuse the White Flames and misdirect them to another place instead. The result was very visible as it worked tremendously well so far. They did not need to worry about the White Flames as they had been getting it wrong quite a number of times and wasted a lot of opportunities for taking the Zombie Horde down.

Even if they managed to do so, the necromancers had already stored up enough corpses for the next attack for distraction. They were not going to fight against the White Flames unless it was necessary because it was getting close to winter and their objective was to clear the zombie horde before winter struck or else the travelling time would be absurd.
True enough, they even decided to split up their teams in hopes of covering more ground and that was also not enough of a reason for the Star Foxes to fight them. They were going to play around with the Star Foxes until they accumulated much fatigue on their end. At the same time, this would further buy more time because the White Flames could not accomplish the 'simple' task of eliminating the threat. This might potentially increase the defence forces when their objective was to move forces into the Northern regions of the Southern Kingdom for an eventual attack from Ress.Somehow it did work as a distraction as the White Flames requested more troops as scouts or vanguards to act as a buffer for them should they receive news of the Zombie Horde and this in hand further reduced the number of forces in the bulk of the kingdoms.
Although it was tiring for the Star Foxes to keep a consistent lookout, at least they had the System to report to them, enabling them to play this out smoothly. The magpies and crows under the control of a certain bird queen had proven that birds were still useful in information recon and Jin did not deny its capabilities. (Although the Magpie Queen was just happy that she was still useful after all the inaction she received.)
Other than that, Winter was slowly approaching and the results of the infiltration by another group of Star Foxes alongside the drug smugglers had been proven to be rather successful. In less than two weeks, the Star Foxes were able to meet up with key figures and get them to fall into their hands with the power of banned substances.
The ecstasy that the pills provided had been useful in submitting them to the Star Foxes' will and for a moment they thought that they needed to use their psychic powers to find such key figures if time was of an essence. To their surprise, there was no need to and the moment they were introduced to such nobles, the Star Foxes immediately took over their minds and hearts with both pills and magic.
This deadly combination had pushed the nobles to make reckless ill informed decisions to push the key military personnel out of their kingdoms and to the frontlines of Ress and the Southern Kingdoms. Slowly but surely, there was almost nothing major left in the southern ports of these kingdoms and it was just a matter of time before Jin would be able to enact Operation Dreaded Winter the moment snow fell to the ground of Atopia for the year.
