Chapter 2453: Flames of Death

Once again, the battle ended in the team’s loss.

They sent the video back to the elder. He tried to analyze it, but he was once again too shocked to process all the information that he had. The wolf head attacks… he was sure of it. That was the bloodline attack of the Crimson Ember Wolves.

It was the highest level of bloodline attack and they usually use it as a group.

And here five puppets were using it. He couldn’t even begin to comprehend, how it was even possible. But he didn’t have the luxury to stay in that shock. He hurriedly checked the information they gathered and tried to weave the next strategy.

The team members didn’t have much choice and did as they were told. Stay connected through .com.Côm

They couldn’t think of any ideas, so they might as well follow whatever their elder was saying them they should do.

It was time for the next battle at the next city soon. This time, the wolves game them another shock. Their attacks were different and … familiar.

One of the wolves spat out a fiery inferno that enveloped everyone of the opponents. The inferno had distinct characteristics. It originated a certain way, moved a certain way and caused damage a certain way.

And all these ways were too familiar for them, because they recognized them clearly.

"Tha… That was the attack of Hanma." One of the spectators muttered in shock. Then he saw the attack of a different wolf. It was also a fire attack, but it was a giant series of fire balls that came out of its mouth one after the other.

Then another wolf delivered a different kind of flame attacks.

"These… These are all the attacks of our teammates. They were from the people in the previous battle."

The guy who was focused on capturing the battle yelled out loud in shock…

Ten minutes later.

It was another loss for the Hephaestus team and the video was sent back. This time, the elder wasn’t alone. He called a bunch of his colleagues and showed the video to them, so that they can strategize together.

One of the elders did seem to have gotten an idea.

"I think we are going about this whole thing in a wrong way.

We shouldn’t estimate Sam’s puppets as normal ones."

"Of course, we are estimating that. We were keeping those puppets in the highest fucking regard. There was nothing like that before, for us to actually regard it lower."

"But you are still sticking to the basic principals of puppet making when you are considering your strategy.

I am sure, whenever you made the strategy, you were counting on the fact that the puppets will not last long. Because you can only store so much energy in a puppet. Definitely not as much as a cultivator.

I am sure, you were also making an assumption that there should be a puppet master. Even if he was far away, you were sure that he was connected them.

Isn’t that right?"

The elder nodded. That was exactly what he did.

And he didn’t even stop and think to do those things. They were just instinctual.

"That’s where the problem lies.

Remove those thoughts in your mind and now think. Assume that those were just normal high level beasts. How would you tackle them? All five of your team members are weaker than those beasts. What would you do?"

The Elder’s eyes lit up and he immediately went back to the drawing board. A new strategy was born. He drew up the strategy clearly and sent it back into that realm. The students got, read it and executed it.

However, what they didn’t realize was that they were too late.

The battle began and once again, the five wolf puppets came. This time however, the five opponents didn’t just directly engage them. Instead of fighting them head on, they all threw some consumable inscription tokens and ran away.

All five of them used the same tactic and they attacked one puppet each.

They didn’t run too far. Just enough to be at the far end of the puppet’s senses. The five puppets looked at them and then looked at each other. As if they were really capable of communicating. Then they started pursuing one target each.

When Sam was declaring the terms for the battle, he only said time, place and the numbers. He never said anything about how far the battlefield is limited to. So, these students tried to take advantage of this.

The were using everything in their means to escape. But only during the chase did they realize how fast the wolves were.

They were as fast as any cultivator they have met in the same level and they were consistent too. With the flames enveloping them, they acted like they were real wolves with fire fusion.

One of the students lured the puppet into a forest not too far away. He used the trees to his advantage as he bounced around moving fast. Once he went deep enough, he took out something that looked like a cannister and unlocked its cap.

A weird smog came out of it and it spread throughout the forest.

*GROWL*

*GROWL*

Many growls could be heard from deep corners and only then did the student halt in his tracks. Even the wolf did the same…

*SWOOSH* *SWOOSH* *SWOOSH*

Soon the student saw multiple silhouettes coming over through the thick fog. As he saw them, he took out more cannisters and threw all of them around the wolf puppet.

The puppet didn’t react.

The smog enveloped it completely. The beasts that came towards them, suddenly focused on the wolf alone and they didn’t even waste a second.

*ROAR* *ROAR*

Various beasts charged at it. Apes, elephants, a couple of tigers and a bunch of birds. All of them attacked the wolf at the same time. They are very high in number. But they weren’t as strong. There was one strongest beast at the peak stage of second grade.

The wolf puppet just started fighting as they came.

However, as the number of beasts increased, something in the puppet changed. Black lines appeared all over it. Its claws and maw glowed black.

*BOOM*

As it spit fire, instead of the previous red flame, a dark almost black flame came out. The student who was standing far away on a tree watched this with a stunned expression.

"Flames of Death?"

He muttered out loud. The flames of death… much like the previous curse the wolves used when attacking students, this is also a curse that’s related to the flame. However, if the previous attack was more about fire and less about the curse, this one is opposite.

Basically, this is death energy taking the form of flames and burning everything.

It was a curse that takes effect in an instant, but sticks with the victim for as long as they vitality in their bodies.

Of course, it wasn’t invincible. As long as the victim can defend the flames, they would be fine and if their defense is high enough to block a fire attack of the same intensity can easily block it.

However, not a lot of people at the same level can block the attacks of the puppets. It would be almost impossible to do so.

The beasts were the same. The flames caught them and their vitality fed into it, making them soon lose the will to even struggle. And soon the whole forest caught the flames. The student turned tail and was about to run away.

At that time, the wolf leaped over the burning corpses of the beast, while mid-air, a concentrated ball of fire shot out.

*SWOOSH*

It was think like a small bullet of sorts and it tore through the air, boring through everything that came in its way. And before the student could even sense the threat…

*BOOM*

The sphere him in the back, making a hole. And at the same time, he was caught in those black flames. The wolf ran through the burning forest until it saw the dead body of the young man. It held him by his throat as he burned and dragged him to the battlefield.

But the time it was there, the other four wolves were also dragging their respective targets. Unlike the first wolf, the others had some more injuries, but none of them were serious. By the time they dropped the bodies, those cracks and gashes healed completely. They dropped the burned corpses there and left in their bird puppet ride.

Needless to say, that was the time the students lost hope and rest of the battles in the planet were also a win for the puppets.

That made the elders unable to have a sample of those puppets. But they didn’t give up. As soon as Sam stepped out of the portal, he was met with a scene he didn’t expect.

Ling Tian was standing just a couple of feet away from the portal and behind him were four elders of the Hephaestus academy.
