Reincarnated as an Energy with a System

Chapter 1753 1753: Returning with News

Ning dressed up as one of the soldiers in the camp and went around asking questions about the war. No one seemed cautious that he was asking any questions and answered without much hesitation.

As it turned out, exactly a week ago, there had been an incident. The people of the Golden Republic had used underhanded methods to send assassins into all three camps and killed many influential figures, including the Emperor.

So, all three camps had come together as one and decided to end this war once and for all. Instead of a battle of attrition, they forced thousands of soldiers through the tiny pass, pushing their enemy back.

They were like madmen who did not care how many died or were wounded. If they were wounded, they would be sent back to get healed.

If they died, they would be brought back as undead, forced to fight for the army still.

Compared to the other side, the coalition had far more necromancers in this fight and, as a result, far more undead. Using them all, they fought for three days in a row.

On the morning of the fourth day, the Golden Republic knew they had lost. As a result, they finally surrendered. The army spent a day at rest before leaving late in the evening yesterday. They hoped that they could reach the capital of the republic in half a week.

Ning frowned a bit upon hearing that. If what he learned here was true, then it had been close to three days since the army had left for the capital.

And in two more days, they would reach it. After that, no one knew how long it would take for the next Emperor to be crowned. Had he been too late? Was he going to lose the chance to make Shara the Empress?

‘Shit, I can’t be late,’ Ning thought and ran out of the camp, going back up the hill to the room where he had stashed the undead.

Ning panicked for a moment when he couldn’t find the undead. He feared that the undead had been found and taken away. However, upon further thought, he realized something else was the issue and searched intently for the undead right where he had left it.

Ning found the undead still hidden behind some folds of clothes in the dark corner, wearing his concealment talisman. Because of the talisman, he had struggled quite a bit to find it.

Ning took the talisman and wore it himself. The Luminous Lemming stood on his shoulder while Ning climbed the undead’s shoulders. Then, with a simple tap, the undead soldier began moving.

Soon, Ning was out of the barracks and on his way back to Shara and the rest.

The Luminous Lemming vanished from his shoulders as Ning had no need for it anymore. He needed something else instead to speed up his journey, but the only thing that could do it—the Mountain Mole—was gone for the next six days.

After some thought, Ning brought back the Flare Fox a few minutes later and enjoyed its warmth. He pulled out some raw strips of beef he had stolen from the kitchen back in the camp, already seasoned and marinated, and had the Flare Fox cook it with its fire.

Ning didn’t need to eat the food. He was satiated for a while still. But, considering how long the journey was, he wanted this.

While beaten by the cold wind, the hot strips of lightly charred meat felt sensational in Ning’s mouth, warming up his entire body. With the undead grabbing his legs tightly, he had no worry of falling either, so he enjoyed the warm food.

The journey back didn’t take nearly as long. Romus had the army moving constantly, so when Ning returned, they were already halfway to the camp.

Upon seeing Ning’s arrival, the entire 8,000-strong undead army slowed down, coming to a standstill before him.

Quickly, Matthew and Romus ran to the front where the undead had stopped, and Ning jumped off.

“Are you alright?” Matt quickly asked. “We thought you were captured, or worse, dead.”

“Huh? Why would you think that?” Ning asked.

“Because you took so long to return,” Romus said. “What happened? Why did you take so long?”

Ning turned to look at Romus. “I was at the coalition’s camp, gathering information.”

“Huh?”

“The camp?”

The two men were confused. “Why would you go there? You were supposed to just find out where the scouts were and return,” Romus said.

“There are no scouts,” Ning said. “Actually, the situation is entirely different from what we imagined.”

He looked at the two and took a moment to give them the bad news. “The war is over. Your people have lost.”

Romus was stunned silent for a moment, unable to believe it. Matthew, on the other hand, seemed agitated at the news. “What do you mean? How could we lose?”

Ning gestured with his head. “Let’s go sit somewhere and talk. I have much to let you all know.”

They made their way to the carriage where Shara and Mari were waiting for Ning. As soon as Ning entered, Shara hugged him tightly.

“I was so worried something might have happened to you. Thank god,” Shara said.

Ning smiled. “I’m sorry for worrying you all. This just took a little longer than I would’ve wanted it to,” he said and sat down. “Sit down, you all. I have much to tell you.”

With Mari, Shara, Matt, and Romus settled into their seats around the carriage, Ning began telling them in detail about how the Golden Republic had lost the war.

Ning told them about the assassination attempts, the death of the old Emperor, and the battle that took place about a week ago. The knowledge that the republic had lost was one that shook Matt and Romus.

As soldiers of the republic, they had vowed to fight for their land until the end of their lives. And yet, when they were away, mere days from returning to their people, they were met with the news that they had lost.

This was devastating news.
