The dragon's harem

Chapter 1323 - 1323: Back at You

The paladin growled as he jumped back, his right eye blind. But that didn’t even dent his resolve. With both madness and divine magic running through his veins, he leaped back at Arad like a hungry beast, swinging his swords at blinding speed.

The two flashed across the battlefield, leaving wakes of destruction in their path as all the other half-angels were forced to evade them. Each time their swords clashed, a blinding flash illuminated the ground, and powerful shockwaves roared across the sky, shaking the whole world.

Arad didn’t care about what the paladin could do. That man would never be able to harm him, but he had learned the hard way not to underestimate paladins.

It was then that the paladin charged forward, a suicidal attack at full force. He threw all defenses down, dropped caution, and lunged head-first into Arad’s deadly attack. For a moment there, Arad could swear that he saw the man’s eyes flash with divine light and brilliance.

Arad’s sword plunged into his chest, barely missing the heart since Arad didn’t want to kill him. It all happened in a fraction of a second that even Arad couldn’t understand what had gotten into the paladin’s head. Why throw his life just like that? Did he have some weird plan?

The paladin did have a plan, and it was one hell of a common plan. He immediately grabbed Arad in a hug and screamed, “BLAST HIM OUT!”

The half-angels immediately formed a massive circle above Arad and started chanting. The paladin used all of his might to try and keep Arad in place. This was their last attack, a hit that should kill both Arad and the paladin.

What interested Arad more was that he recognized the attack. When he was trying to enter Merlin’s labyrinth, and the angels she summoned tried to stop him, they pulled an attack like this. They intend to combine all of their divine magic to force a divine intervention or summon a divine punishment to kill Arad.

They are summoning the power of a god into the mortal world. But those half-angels were far weaker than the angels that Merlin summoned, so the attack they were about to pull was weak, too weak to compare to what he had endured before. He was even younger at the time. He can survive this blast without a scratch.

The paladin, on the other hand, not even his bones would remain, which was a bad thing. Arad didn’t want the first thing he did here to be killing one of Lucifer’s commanders.

Arad smacked the paladin away and clenched a fist, staring at the rumbling heavens above him. He could already detect the first flaw in their magic. They can’t decide which god will respond to their call. They might not even get a reply. The angels, on the other hand, could decide which god they called, making it easier to get the result they desired.

But then, the divine magic above them swelled and swirled around, turning green and vibrant. Arad immediately noticed the shift and got ready for a heavy blow.

A god had responded to their plea, and not just that, the god fully intends to crush Arad, pulling all the power allowed to them in the mortal world. This would be as harsh as the divine punishments go, and so he needs to get ready for a painful hit.

^Kali, which god responded to them?^

[Arad! What did, how come Aunt Jemima is sending down a divine punishment at you?]

^The half-angels attacked me the moment I reached their land. Who is Jemima, said she was your Aunt?^

[Goddess of harvest, plants, and farming. Avoid the attack if you can.]

^How strong can a goddess of harvest be?^

[Pretty strong. The entire mortal civilization relies on farming. Every living mortal basically worships here. Unlike Amaterasu and me, who embody something, she is powered by the people’s faith. Even you have once ordered farms to be built on your land to feed the people.]

^Farming empowers the goddess of farming. Who would’ve guessed?^

Arad’s body flashed black as he flew up, turning into a dark ball of the void before coming out of it in his draconic form. Full size, all power, and nothing held back.

Jemima might be a powerful goddess, but that doesn’t mean that she is a good fighter. Having a portfolio of harvest and farming, she is more suitable to assisting mortals in their lives than bringing death and destruction.

As Arad expected, the divine attack coming toward him held a lot of pure divine power but nothing more. Jemima couldn’t channel it into any lethal form, just trying to drown Arad with a blast of her power.

[Elemental Expansion]

Arad’s void expanded outward and formed a massive barrier around him as he flew straight at the falling beam of divine light. He won’t dodge the attack since that would spell death for all of the half-angels below. He must take it head-on and protect them.

The situation looked bad, but it was still within Arad’s expectations. Maybe not the expectation he had for this trip, but at least he expected a god to give him a divine punishment.

The divine beam hit Arad’s void expansion with a rumble, and a blinding flash illuminated the whole section of the continent like a titanic nuclear blast.

Arad growled, feeling the worst stomach pain he had felt in his whole life, but it wasn’t something he couldn’t manage. Gritting his teeth, he swallowed the whole blast into his stomach, took a deep breath, and spat it back at the heavens.

The half-angels below froze as they saw what Arad did. He had just throated a goddess’s divine punishment and spat it back at her face.

If they didn’t know they messed up at first, now it had become clear they had no chance of beating Arad.

Arad glared at the still-glowing sky and roared, “Listen here! Harvest! Instead of wasting all of that divine magic here, why not use it to give people some rain? Some decent land to farm on?” He growled, “I’ve seen the desert south. That place could use some help.”

At the same time, the southern desert saw its first drops of rain in a long time.
