THE LAST PARAGON IN THE APOCALYPSE

Chapter 656 - 656: Spar with Friends (1)

Klaus spent close to four hours with Old Lu before returning to the inner area of the academy to meet up with his friends again and plan their moves for after the Moonborn arrive.

Along the way, he met the gaze of countless disciples. Some looked at him with reverence, while others were outright scared of him. It was as if they were seeing a forbidden human walking among them.

The part about the forbidden human was true, but some saw him as a divine being blessed by the heavens.

Klaus would probably smack them silly if he knew what they were thinking. He and the heavens have been at war for generations already.

Their blessing him was the last thing that would ever happen.

He made his way toward the training grounds, as Lucy had told him they were training there while he was away.

When he arrived at the training ground, he saw the two brutes hammering and axing it out like juggernauts.

Daniel’s hammer was lit up in flames, while Danny’s glowed golden. His light energy was golden, so his hammer was golden, and his body was also covered in the same light.

“You’re still lacking, Danny,” Daniel said, bringing his hammer down on his friend, who sidestepped and landed a swing on his side, sending him flying.

“Are you crazy? Don’t you know that would have cut me in half?” Daniel growled at his friend, who smirked and placed the hammer on his shoulder.

“Your skin is thicker than that. Cutting you would require much more effort than this,” Danny said in a cheeky tone, causing Daniel to leap into the air as his entire body was bathed in flames.

“Eat my hammer!” he shouted, his voice thundering as he descended on his friend, who was grinning as he readied himself for battle.

On the other side of the battlefield, Anna and Lily were also battling it out. The Ice Princess gripped her new staff firmly as she cast spell after spell, trying to catch the windlike figure speeding around her.

The wind was Lily, who was using her speed, which was harnessed by the wind, to evade and look for a way to counter.

“You’re annoying to spar with, Lily,” Anna said, casting more ice and water spells, but none were working.

“As if you’re any fun to spar with. I can’t even get close to you without freezing my butt off,” Lily replied with a laugh.

Anna also laughed.

She was standing inside a two-meter-wide spell circle that was cast from her aspect called [Infinity Zero Degrees].

The moment Lily stepped in, as she had said, she would freeze her ass off. This made it impossible for her to get close to Anna, so they could only attack the air and hope one of them made a mistake.

The moment one makes a mistake, the other will capitalize on it.

In fact, since Klaus had made it so their illusion crystal could create opponents from their imagination, the two had tried battling each other in the illusions countless times, but they never seemed to find a way.

This proves they were, in a way, safe when their defenses were put to the test. But they had to learn how to break through their opponents’ defenses if they wanted to have a shot at winning.

Klaus smiled and shifted his attention to Lucy and Nia. The Queen of Vines and the Dagger Queen were also in a stalemate.

Lucy was surrounded by thick vines that looked more metallic than wooden. They shot and stabbed at a shadow, moving several times faster than even Lily.

From time to time, Nia would appear and try to attack with her daggers, but Lucy would either stop her by using her ice element or counterattack with her wood element directly.

“This Nia is scary,” Klaus thought, watching as Nia slipped in and out of existence using the shadows.

[She is really good with her control over her shadow realm. It’s as if she is one with the shadow, and the shadow is one with her. Or rather, it’s as if she is the shadow itself.]

The senior’s words made Klaus nod as he continued to watch the innocent-looking blondie, who appeared nothing like an assassin, slip through the shadows as though she owned them.

[The one with the wood element will lose in the next five seconds,] the senior suddenly said, causing Klaus to narrow his gaze at Lucy.

But before he could ask why, he saw Lucy’s shadow move. Then, Nia appeared behind her and placed a dagger against her neck.

“You lost… again,” Nia said teasingly, causing Lucy to smirk.

‘Wait, did her shadow move independently?’ Klaus asked.

[Yes. She is a rare breed of assassin. The last time I checked, there was only one clan of the shadow demon race that possessed such an ability.]

‘Are you saying she is a shadow demon?’ Klaus asked.

[I can’t say for sure, but having an independent shadow points to the Shadowless Clan of the shadow demon race.

And let me tell you, they are the most lethal assassins you will ever meet in your life. Even immortals and gods fear them, for when your picture is placed on their desk, you are as good as dead.

In fact, nobody has ever survived an assassination attempt from the Shadowless Clan, as far as my knowledge goes.

They are the race that holds supremacy and reverence over the art of assassination. You could even say they are assassination itself, in all aspects and forms.]

‘Damn, she wouldn’t only look hot with horns, she’d also be that monstrous,’ Klaus thought inwardly with a giggle.

If only he knew that the very first time he nearly died as a paragon was when a certain beautiful Shadowless assassin was sent after him.

It was one of the most dreadful moments of his life and also the first time he, as a full-fledged paragon, had to run for his life, for the shadow of death was sent after her.

For 365 days, she hunted him down like a rat. If he were to recall that fateful encounter…perhaps Klaus would realize some of his ladies didn’t arrive like the ice princess.

Some went from enemies to lovers…a rather chaotic relationship if you ask me.
