The Strongest Assassin Reincarnates in Another World
Chapter 412: Forgotten Memories [2]His anger, his hopelessness, his lack of power...they all resounded within his mind, slowly corrupting his mind. He could feel it; the more time he spent in this place, reliving his memories, the more he would be affected when he came back to the real world.
He felt, saw, smelled, and heard through the body of his past self. However, no matter how much he wanted to move or talk to his inner self, he couldn’t.
’What’s happening?’ Aiden thought, frustration slowly getting the better of him.
He was simply a bystander looking at the situation through his past self’s eyes. It felt weird, and he had never imagined himself to be back there in his room, watching the television.
Then, his body, which was sat on his thin and cheap mattress, stood up, heading for the door.
Aiden wasn’t sure how old he was. However, he was sure that he wasn’t a child anymore. It was a few years after the tournament that he had come out on top.
A few minutes passed by, and Aiden found himself knocking on a door, slowly waiting for it to open and let him in from the looks of it.
Aiden wanted to leave his previous life behind. He didn’t want to relive his past life...his past life was something he wanted to forget, something negative...the only thing positive about his past life was his death when he received a chance at a second life, freeing him from Jack’s shackles.
-Swoosh!
The door Aiden had knocked on finally opened, and without much surprise, it was Jack who was on the other side of it. He looked sleepy, probably because Aiden had knocked on his door in the middle of the night, but time was never something Aiden cared about in the past.Your next chapter awaits on empire
"What are you doing here?" Jack asked, his eyes barely opened.
"I want to train."
Words came out of Aiden’s mouth, and the tone in his voice was...cold, almost inhumane. But it didn’t surprise Aiden much. No one could remain mentally stable in a place like this. A place where death is a constant threat over one’s head.
"Train by yourself. Follow the training instructions given previously. Now, if you’ll let me go back to sleep, I would greatly appreciate it," Jack said as he closed the door instantly.
However, the past Aiden wasn’t done as he knocked on the door again. It seemed he had something else to say to his cruel mentor.
A few seconds passed, but no one was opening the door for him. It seemed Jack was either ignoring him or couldn’t be bothered to listen to whatever Aiden had to say. However, that was to be expected. That’s why Aiden or his previous self had already prepared for something similar to this.
"I already finished learning the technique shown to us yesterday."
Aiden’s tone was quiet and disheartening. He already knew Jack wasn’t sleeping and that he was acting this way because he wanted him to leave. However, Aiden had an objective, and he wouldn’t achieve it if he were to listen to everything that would be thrown his way.
The door, which had been tightly shut a few seconds ago, opened once more, with Jack looking a lot more open to conversation.
"You learned it? In only one day...but that’s imp..."
Words wouldn’t come out of his throat no matter how much he tried, too.
"Aiden. How old are you again?"
Jack’s focus seemed to have changed direction correctly as he looked at the slim and malnourished body that Aiden had slowly built through the years.
"13 years old," the past Aiden said without any hesitation.
"Hm...come with me. If you really learned that technique, then you might get something out of it."
Jack didn’t waste any more time lingering in front of the door to his room as he quickly left it, heading for the training grounds. He wanted to see if that kid had told him the truth, and he wanted to know if it was possible that one of their recruits had such great talent.
Aiden was mindlessly following Jack. Surprisingly, his past self didn’t think much...well, he didn’t have much to think about since he was always alone, either training or sleeping.
However, during this little conversation with Jack, Aiden was met with one simple problem...he couldn’t remember anything about what would be happening next.
He had no idea when or how this conversation had happened. So, for the first time since he had been pulled into the body of his younger self, Aiden couldn’t wait to see the technique his younger had been training.
’Is it Shadow Steps? No, I had already started training it before I was thirteen...what could it be?’
Questions arose in his mind, but he dismissed them as they finally arrived at the training grounds.
It was extremely dark, with no presence of light, and the walls surrounding them pure black. The purpose of such a dark training ground was simple: to train the eyes of all their recruits.
Assassins mostly work in the shadows, surrounded by darkness. So, the organization had done its absolute best to recreate such a thing even while training.
"So, go ahead, show me what you learned," Jack mindlessly said, acting like he couldn’t be bothered to be here with him.
Aiden’s moved his head in a nod on his own as he pulled out the dagger that had been around his waist.
’Oh, a dagger technique? Which one will it be?’
A lot of different techniques flashed in Aiden’s mind as he continued to look at Jack dead in the eyes.
He tightly grabbed the dagger and started gracefully moving it around. Every movement Aiden performed seemed to complete the next one as if this wasn’t a technique but a dance...a deadly dance.
’Why can’t I remember this dance? Are my memories incomplete?’ Aiden thought as he focused on all of the movements his older body went through, making sure to memorize all of them.
Maybe he had forgotten parts of his past life when he was reincarnated in this world. He had never noticed before since he remembered the most important things in his past life, like his death and some parts of his cruel training. But that was it. He had never tried to think about every minor detail of his past life.
The only techniques he remembered were the ones the system had given him at the beginning, but what if...what if there were a lot more abilities that the system had never detected.
’Why am I seeing this now? After all this time, who would be showing me this?’ Aiden thought.
There was no one who knew about his past life that had the power of such a thing, and more importantly, he had been in a different dimension, isolated in a small cell inside built by a mentally unstable scientist.
’Is it because of what he injected in me? Maybe...just maybe that’s one of the possible side-effects.’
Aiden’s thoughts started drifting away from the beautiful dance his past self was performing. However, Aiden didn’t need to keep his focus on it too long. He could feel all those movements, and he would make sure to recreate them once he returned to his real body.
-Swoosh!
-Swiish!
His dagger moved gracefully, seemingly ethereal, and finally came to a stop right below Jack’s throat, close enough that some blood trickled down onto the dagger.
Jack had his eyes wide open as he looked at the young man, and he slowly started clapping his hands...a laugh coming out of his mouth.
"T-This was perfect. H-How...No, Aiden, listen to me. You have potential. You have the potential to become one of the strongest."
The moment he heard those words, the forgotten memory flowed into Aiden’s mind...he remembered everything that happened after that sentence was pronounced, and he wished he hadn’t.
