Villain Ch 969. Joining The Villains

With that, the group began to disperse, each of them preparing to log off. Allen watched as his companions started to fade from the virtual environment, their avatars slowly dissolving into pixels before vanishing completely.

Allen stood alone in front of the Cursed Crypts. He let out a long breath. ‘Well, now since I’m alone,’ he muttered internally, his mind already shifting gears. ‘I should check the market before I log off,’ he thought, his thoughts turning to the bizarre items he had recently placed in the auction house.

He couldn’t help but wonder how many players had already put in their bids. Or maybe… had they figured out that the items were practically useless?

His lips curled into a small, amused smirk at the thought. Those items were worthless in combat, sure, but they had a certain allure—an oddity that might tempt collectors or traders. And if no one bit, well, he could always sell them back to the NPC for a lower sum.

Without wasting any more time, Allen turned and headed back to his mansion. His boots made soft, echoing clicks against the cobblestone path. Once inside the portal room, Allen activated his camouflage skill, his form shifting and blurring as he took on Al’s figure.

Once his transformation was complete, Allen approached the glowing portal. The portal shimmered, rippling like water as he selected his destination: Ront City. With a deep breath, he stepped into the portal.

When he emerged on the other side, the bustling streets of Ront City greeted him. Players of all levels filled the streets, hawking wares, forming parties, and generally contributing to the constant hum of activity.

Allen moved through the crowd. His steps were unhurried, his demeanor relaxed. Despite the assassin’s unremarkable appearance, his eyes were sharp, scanning the area with a calm efficiency.

He weaved through the crowd, avoiding groups of rowdy players and sidestepping those who seemed too engrossed in their own business to notice him. The streets of Ront City were bustling with activity, as usual, filled with players haggling with NPC vendors, discussing strategies, or simply wandering around looking for their next adventure.

Allen, now disguised as the assassin Al, moved through the throngs of people with ease, his camouflage skill ensuring he remained just another face in the crowd. His steps were unhurried, his demeanor relaxed, but his mind was sharp, attuned to every snippet of conversation that drifted his way.

As he passed by a group of players gathered near a weapons shop, his ears caught the familiar phrase that made him pause.

“Did you hear about what happened at the Black Castle?”

“Yeah, I heard!” another player, a young warrior with a massive sword slung over his back, replied excitedly. “The Devil Emperor and his crew showed up out of nowhere and wiped out everyone there. Three top guilds went in to take him down, and they still got destroyed!”

“No way…” a mage nearby gasped, her eyes wide with disbelief. “Three guilds? Ugh… He is too OP.”

“He is the most overpowered A.I. in the game. The dude’s literally unbeatable,” the warrior stated, shaking his head.

Allen smirked to himself as he continued walking, his steps light and nearly silent on the cobblestone streets. He could feel the pride swelling in his chest, knowing the chaos he and his companions had caused was the talk of the city. But as he listened further, another conversation caught his attention.

“You know what’s crazier?” a rogue with a hood pulled low over his eyes whispered to his companion, a petite archer with a quiver of arrows slung across her back. “Some of the girls in my guild are totally obsessed with him.”

“No way, obsessed with who?” the archer asked, her voice tinged with curiosity.

“The Devil Emperor!” the rogue said, his voice barely above a whisper, but with enough excitement that Allen could hear the grin in his tone. “They’ve got, like, this huge crush on him. They’re talking about how mysterious and powerful he is, and how they’d totally join his crew if they could.”

That ‘They’d totally join his crew if they could’ made Allen halt his steps, his heart skipping a beat. A crush? On him? He glanced around, making sure his disguise was holding as he leaned slightly closer to the group, pretending to browse a nearby vendor’s wares.

“Wait, it’s not just the girls,” another voice chimed in, this one belonging to a tank with a massive shield strapped to his back. “I’ve heard some of the guys talking too. They’re all about the Emperor’s vibe, you know? How he’s this ultimate villain, but also super cool and untouchable. It’s like they want to be him.”

“Seriously?” the archer said, her brows furrowed in confusion. “He’s a villain, though. Isn’t he supposed to be, like, the bad guy?”

“Yeah, but that’s what makes him so awesome!” the tank replied, his voice filled with enthusiasm. “He’s not just any bad guy; he’s ‘the’ bad guy. The one everyone’s scared of but secretly admires. And you know how people get when it comes to villains—they love them.”

Allen’s smirk faded as he processed the conversation. ‘I’m the villain,’ he thought, bemused. ‘I’m literally this game’s biggest threat, but they are thinking of joining me?’ It was bizarre, almost surreal.

He continued to listen, curiosity piqued.

“But isn’t he just an A.I.?” the archer asked, her voice laced with skepticism. “I mean, I get the whole mysterious vibe, but he’s not even a real player. How can you crush on a program?”

“I don’t know, man,” the rogue shrugged. “But does it matter? In the game, he’s basically a legend. A living, breathing nightmare that no one can touch. It’s like… I guess it’s more about what he represents, you know? Power, fear, mystery.

People get drawn to that, whether it’s real or not.”

The archer nodded slowly, still processing the idea. “I guess that makes sense. It’s like how some people get obsessed with villains in movies or books. There’s just something about that kind of dark, untouchable power that pulls people in.”
