Wizard World Irregular
Chapter 1132: After Story 8: I Don’t Want To Have RegretsWithin the depths of the sea was a popular place that the members of the ocean races liked to visit.
They called it the Rainbow Garden of the Sea.
Countless glowing corals with varying colors clustered together, forming a picturesque underwater masterpiece that had become one of the most famous attractions within the seas of Midgard.
“I’ve been here many times, but I never get tired of this sight,” Illumina said as she and Ethan took a stroll in the underwater garden.
Cradled in the young man’s arms was his two-year-old son, who looked at his surroundings with a face filled with fascination.
“Lyr seems to be loving this place as well,” Ethan commented with a smile.
“How about you?” Illumina inquired. “Do you like it?”
“I do,” Ethan answered. “Thank you for bringing me here.”
The mermaid princess then leaned close to her husband and smiled faintly.
“I noticed you’ve been absent-minded these past few days,” Illumina said. “While I don’t know what you’re thinking, I believe that a little stroll might serve as a decent distraction and change of scenery.”
“I see. So this is the main reason you brought us here.” Ethan smiled. “Thank you, Illumina, and sorry for worrying you.”
“Then, how about you tell me what’s plaguing your thoughts?” Illumina inquired. “Maybe a third person’s opinion might give you the answer you’re looking for.”
Ethan pondered for a while before heaving a deep sigh.
“Actually, during the battle in Atlantis, when you girls were risking your lives to protect me, I fought against the Primordial Ouroboros to gain his recognition and strength,” Ethan answered.
“However, before that battle, I saw several future possibilities. In those visions, I saw you girls living a happy life with me and our children.”
“Oh, did you see Lyr in that vision?” Illumina asked with genuine curiosity.
“Yes,” Ethan answered. “Do you remember when I told you our firstborn will be a boy?”
Illumina nodded. “You did say that, and I was surprised when it actually came true.”
“Indeed.” Ethan kissed his son’s cheek. “I saw Lyr before he was even born, as well as his brothers and sisters. They were the ones who gave me the strength to overcome that great challenge back there.”
Illumina was quite smart, so she managed to connect the dots and understand the source of Ethan’s problem.
“Did you perhaps see other ladies who gave birth to your child aside from us?” Illumina asked, her expression looking thoughtful.
Ethan nodded honestly because this was indeed the source of his problem.
If he hadn’t seen those future possibilities, he wouldn’t have felt so troubled and conflicted.
“Then, can you tell me who it is?” Illumina asked, reaching out to hold her husband’s hand. “Don’t worry. I’m here for you. Even if the others don’t support your decision, I will support it.”
The young man gave the mermaid princess’ hand a light squeeze, thanking her. Illumina’s words meant a lot to him, for the vision he had seen was connected to her as well.
“It is Wilhelmina,” Ethan replied. “I saw her in that future possibility. Lyr was playing with his sister, and she’s Wilhelmina’s daughter.”
Illumina blinked once, then twice, before a giggle escaped her lips.
Truth be told, Princess Wilhelmina had approached her a few times in the past few years because whenever she visited Atlantis, Ethan would react strangely.
The mermaid princess wondered if the Prince of Atlantis was angry at her, or if she had done something that didn’t please him.
Whenever she visited Atlantis, Ethan would sometimes look at her guiltily before walking away.
Of course, he didn’t always do that.
Sometimes, when everyone was busy, he would do his best to be a good host and entertain the Mermaid Princess.
“He seemed close but distant,” Princess Wilhelmina had said to Illumina back then. “And sometimes, even when he’s distant, I can feel his gaze on me. The gaze itself didn’t feel malicious, and was instead… rather sad at times. This is why I wonder if I did him wrong without realizing.”
After remembering her friend’s complaint, Illumina finally understood why her husband acted the way he did.
A part of him didn’t want to have more wives aside from them.
Even the proposed plan of taking in two more consorts from the Protector Clans that belonged to the Dwarven and Elven Families gave Ethan a headache.
He feared that once he agreed to it, other members of the Ocean Races might also think he was open to having more wives and concubines.
Ethan was now the Prince of Atlantis.
Whether he liked it or not, he needed to understand how politics worked.
Although he couldn’t please everyone, he needed to keep those who had supported the Valentin Family close, for their loyalty had been tested through time.
The last thing he wanted was to have cracks form in his generation.
He also didn’t want to sacrifice Joanne’s happiness and have her marry two candidates from the Oddfrid and Argus Clans.
“Then, do you hate Wilhelmina?” Illumina asked.
“There’s nothing to hate about her,” Ethan replied. “She’s a wonderful woman. Strong, beautiful, and kind. Any man would want to have her as his wife.”
Illumina quieted down as she continued to stroll the garden with her husband and child.
A few minutes later, she decided to speak her mind.
“Ethan, I didn’t mention it earlier, but Wilhelmina is being forced by her family to marry,” Illumina said. “Among the three strongest Mermaid Princesses of the sea, she’s the only one left single.
“I am married to you, and Ariel is now married to Godfrey. They are also expecting a child very soon, which leaves Wilhelmina in a pinch. From what I’ve heard, she needs to make her decision in a week. Otherwise, her parents will choose a husband for her.”
Ethan frowned after hearing Illumina’s revelation. He didn’t expect Wilhelmina’s parents to act so decisively, regardless of whether their daughter liked to marry.
Seeing his expression, Illumina sighed.
“It’s common for the nobility of the Ocean Races to have arranged marriages,” Illumina said. “If not for the promise I had with you, I would have married long ago to ensure the growth and prosperity of my own kingdom.”
The Mermaid Princess then glanced at Ethan with an amused expression on her face.
“Actually, I was supposed to marry King Oceanus,” Illumina stated. “He has been pushing our union, so when I kept on refusing him, he decided to make things difficult for us during his planned unification of the sea to conquer the surface world.”
“Good thing he’s dead,” Ethan replied coldly.
“Indeed.” Illumina nodded. “I consider myself lucky because the one I love and the one I married ended up being the same person. But Wilhelmina might not have the same happy ending as I.
“I’m not going to lie. She has a crush on you. If not for the fact that you already have many wives, she might have accepted her family’s proposal to have them play matchmaker and propose that you marry her as well.”
The mermaid princess stopped walking and looked at the young man’s eyes, holding his gaze.
“Ethan, time waits for no one,” Illumina said. “We will only know the value of things once we lose them. Do you really wish to have regrets in your lifetime?”
“No,” Ethan replied firmly. “I don’t want to have regrets.”
Illumina cupped the young man’s face and smiled. “Then, that is your answer.”
Lyr, who seemed to understand that his parents had finished talking about important matters, reached out to hug their necks and pulled them closer to each other.
“Mama, Papa, kiss!” Lyr said.
Ethan and Illumina smiled at each other before kissing the cheeks of their son.
“Not me!” Lyr complained. “Kiss each other!”
The couple chuckled at the same time and obeyed their son’s wishes. The two exchanged two quick pecks before returning to kissing Lyr, who tried to squirm his way out of his father’s hold because their kisses felt ticklish.
A few minutes later, Ethan thanked Illumina for helping him make up his mind.
“Let’s go back,” Ethan said. “I need to meet someone before it’s too late.”
Illumina nodded. “Let’s go. Make sure to make her happy, just like how you made all of us happy.”
Summoning his underwater chariot, Ethan took Illumina and his son on a journey to the Aenon Kingdom, where a lonely mermaid princess was about to make the most important decision of her life.
