The noble families don’t like the lamp bearers because the lamp bearers restrict what they can do with their spirit spring, stop them from attacking other towns, and, most importantly, have won the hearts of the people.
This third reason is the most important one because it concerns the foundation of power of nobles. It is not just about luxury and freedom of nobles anymore.
Every noble family must have someone in the Knight Pathway because the godclads of this pathway become stronger the more people and soldiers they have in their army. Knights can become so strong with the support of the people that they can fight people two ranks stronger than them.
Nobles with the knight pathway used to be very strong. In fact, the god of justice was also a knight. It was with the power of the Knight pathway and the pathway of justice that the god of justice used to kill the god of blood, who was said to be the strongest true god.
But after the god of justice came into power, he stripped control out of the hands of the nobles, cut their resources by half so that they wouldn’t be able to raise a large army, and then rendered having an army obsolete by stopping nobles from attacking each other.
Things have gotten so bad that if the nobles want to change the status quo, the people will be the first to stand up against the nobles. The nobles can forget about gaining the support of the people because the lamp bearers have stolen it.
So the pathway of knighthood that noble families spent many years of effort and resources on has become obsolete. This is unacceptable to the noble families.
One offense is enough for noble families to be disgruntled with the lamp bearers. Three reasons is just too much. The nobles can’t bear it all.
At the top of the pyramid of the people who don’t like the lamp bearers is the royal family. But the royal family has been forced to behave themselves after the open and public murder of the previous emperor.
Even so, this peace can not last forever. It is just a matter of time before the nobles clash with the lamp bearers.
The noble families are not content with their lot, and the new emperor is not going to be at peace living in a kingdom he doesn’t control with vassals who are actually his superiors that can kill him if he dares to offend them.
All over the country, noble families have begun to act against the lamp bearers. It is not just the Ivory family who is collecting information about every lamp bearer in their town or city. He complained out loud, “She stole what’s ours. That power should have been ours. We should have had two rank 4 patriarchs, but we only have one because they stole our resources and rights from us.”
He complained and grumbled for a long time until he was done venting. After complaining about her, he began to share critical information with his wife.
He said, “I saw someone that I don’t like today. When I saw her, I noticed that it seems her health has recovered. She is looking so good that I am willing to bet that she can grow stronger. It might even be soon.”
His wife’s face fell when she heard what he said. She frowned but quickly changed her facial expression so that he wouldn’t notice it.
She had a lot of questions on her mind, but she didn’t ask. Instead, she listened attentively to all that he had to say.
After he was done, she left to report the news to the family. She told them that Captain Sheckel might have recovered from the inner demon plaguing her and could advance to rank 5 anytime soon.
