So Life Siphon effectively converts their slaves into spiritual batteries and tonics for them. They can use their slaves to replenish their spiritual energy or to heal themselves when they are injured.
Or for fun, pleasure, and punishment, they can just straight up kill their slaves through the mark of bondage. Either way, they think that the Life Siphon divine ability is worth the lack of an increase to their perception and spiritual energy capacity.
On the matter of the pathway of the telepath, instead of getting a quantitative boost in their power, they got a qualitative boost. When they were at rank 1, they could only estimate emotions, but now they can read minds.
No matter how much spiritual power, perception, and spiritual energy they have, it will never be able to match the ability to read minds. So they think it is also worth it to forgo a boost to their spiritual energy and perception this rank.
They are happy with what they got, but they are sure that many godclads will be unhappy with the progress they have made. They are just at rank 2, but things are already getting out of hand, and both the pathway of slavery and the pathway of the telepath.
At rank 1, their slaves could still escape from them. They just had to ignore and overcome the pain. But that can’t happen now.
When they were rank 1 telepaths, they could barely tell emotions. Now that they could read minds, godclads will begin to shun them and actively hunt them.
In their future, when they were telepaths, they had died at rank 2. The 25% mastery of the Mind Read divine ability is a benefit from their future. They would have gotten more if they hadn’t been killed.
Unfortunately for the world, things will only get worse. For example, their slaves can still escape even now that they have reached rank 2. They just have to die, and their slaves will regain their freedom.
If they die before they could kill their slaves, then their slaves will get back their freedom. But that will become impossible at rank 3. At rank 3, when a slave master died, all of their slaves goes down with them.
That is still a long time away, but things are already bad for their slaves. Thanks to the combination of the Mark of Bondage and Mind Read divine abilities, they can read the minds of their slaves right now without seeing them.
It is just like when they combined the Mark of Bondage divine ability of the pathway of slavery with the Mental Probe divine ability of the pathway of the telepath to make contact with the minds of their slaves and shackle them.
This time, they can bypass the need to use Mental Probe to touch the mind of a target before they can use Mind Read. This is the benefit of the synergy that they envisioned when they decided to pick the pathway of the telepath over that of the traveler for their fourth pathway.
The information coming from the minds of their five slaves was not a lot. But it was distracting.
The input of information from an external source felt as if they had gained a new sensory organ. It was also a mentally draining sensory ability that made it difficult to use and walk at the same time.
Fortunately, they have many consciousnesses to handle the extra information. As their captain said, they are good at multitasking.
That thought made them laugh. They found her statement amusing because it is an understatement of what they are truly capable of.
They also weren’t novices at mind reading. With a 25% mastery of the divine ability, not only can they use the ability without failure, they can also use it with an increase of 25% to their energy efficiency.
Not that the Mind Read divine ability consumes a lot of energy. It only uses 1 unit of spiritual energy every one hour. That is an insignificant expenditure considering that they regenerate 24 spiritual energy per hour now.
24 units of spiritual energy per hour is twice as much as they used to regenerate in rank 1. It is all because they have two divine fleshes now for each pathway, so their souls have two channels to regenerate spiritual energy through.
As they were listening to the thoughts of their slaves, they couldn’t help but laugh.
Legion-12 chuckled and said, “That’s what we get for being absent for so long.”
Legion-6 nodded and said in agreement, “I don’t blame them. We would have done the same thing if we were in their shoes.”
Apparently, their slaves have begun planning for their freedom. The ten days they spent practicing plus the three days they spent under watch gave the five of them the illusion that they were preoccupied and wouldn’t be able to stop them if they tried to break their shackles.
This much has been proven by the fact that they met up with someone and told that person about their problem. The person is supposed to meet with them in two days to help them become free.
So they thought of rebellion and even began executing plans for their rebellion. The only one who wasn’t entirely all in was Amelia, the seer.
Amelia was their first slave. Apparently, that meant something to her. She wasn’t willing to give up that title for anything in the world.
It was more like she was very afraid of pain. As their oldest slave, she has experienced more pain than the other four and was determined not to experience more if she could.
Unfortunately, she had been bullied into working together with the others. She could only go along with them for now, but she was ready to expose their plan as soon as their master made contact with them.
All of these were plain to see on their minds. In fact, if Legion could see their bodies too, they would be able to tell that something suspicious was going on without reading their minds.
