Jin promised rebuilding and he had already begun to keep his promise as soon as the workers had completed what they had been doing for the past two weeks. With the excavation of Portal 5, all the crystals in the dungeon had been used in improvised smithing. It was way less than the gigantic mine that Ress had underneath it but it was extensive enough to be used for improvised smithing.
The King had worked on it for 1 hour, pouring Maqi into it, as usual, to strengthen and enhance it in a way that it had become the world’s super sucker when it comes to water. Not only that, with his focus on desalination making the sea water into clean drinkable water for humans, the crystal was able to do so with a 1:1 ratio, producing salt as a by product too.
The merchants who saw it happened nearly foamed in their mouths. Salt was a commodity in medieval times and to see it happen right in their own eyes so effortlessly and of such a fine sandy amount, they were shocked. They could not believe salt could be crushed smoothly and be so fine at all.
"You guys can take the salt and GIVE to the citizens. It will help with the preservation of food items too. When the borders open, sell it to the skies if you need to. But for the citizens, dirt cheap okay?" Jin said and the merchants’ eyes were already glimmering with greed. They obviously knew that now that they were isolated, there was no use manipulating the internal market.
However, what the merchants missed out on was the actual product that Jin wanted from Portal 6. Clean Drinkable Water. With the rescinding of the river because of the isolation barrier, the adventurer and mage guild had been tasked to clean it properly including the streams that had been going out of the capital city as well.
Once the stream had been cleaned, a decree had been enforced by the king himself. No defecating or reliving of oneself could be done on the riverside. Anyone caught would be subjected to free labour for the kingdom. This was done despite the fact that there were Water Mages who had been tasked to regulate the purity of the water as well.
Once said to be a useless sub profession, these water mages had been relegated to be inspection officers for the river streams to ensure the water taken was of a standard of purity.
They not only cleanse the water but also take official records of the water’s purity to see if there was anything that consistently polluted the water source. Not only that, they also were given the right to catch any offenders related to the water source.
Information taking and record taking were a new skill that these mages had to adhere to and Jin said falsifying records would be a crime itself too.
"If my magic eye can see the entire dungeon, do know that my magic eyes can be looking at you or the water stream too," Jin said to the first batch of water inspection officers that had been officiated to take charge of maintaining the water stream as well as bringing the huge ass crystal to Portal 6 for a refill. The latter job was easy since the crystal was clearly of a water element and they could manipulate it to bring into the portal easily and with just one command, it would start sucking water from the sea in Portal 6 until it reached maximum capacity. To the mages’ surprise, there was actually a holographic console that told them the status of the crystal capacity as well, making it very simple to achieve their job.
What was troublesome was that some of these water inspection officers were also rotated to do agriculture duties as part of their role. Jin knew that he did not have the time to care about irrigation since the rebuilding of slums was more important to give the commoners an idea of what he was aiming for. So, for now, the water mages had to manipulate water and do the watering for the farmers.
Still, it was not as easy as it seemed since the fields were stationed outside the capital city and they were wide. So wide that it stretched and tested the capabilities of the water mages to the point that they were crying for help at one point since two mages were not sufficient to perform the duties.
Eventually, Mage students were assigned as part of their duties as well to help cope with the demand for manual irrigation and though it was a short term solution, it was plenty enough for Jin to consider this as a case settled for the time being.
This was because for the next two weeks after the announcement, he had been working with what was formerly called the slums. At first, he thought that there was a need to demolish everything, clear the debris, and start working on the project. Only when he was desperate for a quick solution, Mr Hammer start to ask whether Jin was hit in the head or not.
It was then he realised there was no need to demolish anything from the slums at all. Because he definitely could use the slums as his materials too! Not only that, all those materials, waste, junk, or leftovers that the slum people had left do not need to be disposed of and be used as additional materials to his existing base of items.
"Wahahahaha! Why did I not think of that? All the waste disposal would not be a problem at all if I used all of them as materials! Mr Hammer, you are brilliant! Now being a cleaner can also yield you money! If the previous System could see how environmentally friendly this kingdom can become!" Jin said out loud while hugging the Warhammer relic.
"Ew..." Mr Hammer said but did not deny that the feeling was fantastic because he had never been complimented so much previously. Thus with the slums as the base, he had also told people to place materials on a lane and told soldiers to keep that specific lane to the river to be empty. He wanted to make sure that the new residential quarters that he made had a connection to the river.
This way, the entire residential quarters would be furnished with a continuous water supply too.
Thus, those two weeks after making the water crystal were filled with a solitude banging which made the people concerned for their king too. They knew of magicians reading and burying their face into books for days but never did they heard of a king toiling for 2 weeks straight before.
At the same time, the king was making meetings and even hearing court stuff while reorganising the new ministers into the cabinets. All the documents were said to be placed at his side of his current System and would absorb all of it and put it into words or summaries for Jin to hear.
The only annoying thing is that he was hearing his own voice because the System had decided to use his voice as the output speaker.
Jin asked the System to change but there was no reply back, further confirming once more that this is not the very same System that Jin had worked with previously. It was obstinate about its actions.
Regardless, the person he put in charge of the new cabinet shuffle was none other than En Moy. Out of all the lackeys that had shown promise and loyalty, En Moy had further differentiated himself by putting theory into action. Words on the paper into paper with value in people’s pockets.
Jin told him that in the interim of searching for other ministers, he to be extremely objective in his search. If the King ever finds out that any of the ministers is incompetent or not on En Moy’s level, he will punish En Moy. "I do not care if he is your closest kin, your ex, or your enemy. As long as he or she is willing to work for the kingdom to change, they will have the place...
And sufficient reward."
En Moy noted the responsibility and he will do what he could to search for the right people for the job. But right now, he and an interim group of people whom he deemed suitable for the jobs through their interaction would be working together. Not to mention, Jin had dissolved all the ministries for the moment so all the lackeys who were working for just one ministry would be ’shared’ with everyone.
En Moy can now effectively deploy the ministry employees to places where they need more help. This would aid with the crunch in manpower for the moment as they settle things internally.
Although Jin was the person who had all the ideas and stuff like that, none of them would work if there were no workers under him to make this a reality. This was true for the ministries as well. There were a lot of changes that needed to be done especially in the economy and financial sector.
By introducing a brand new currency, there might be ways to counterfeit it and thus they have to introduce novel alternatives to ensure forging was allowed. Not to mention, the economy now, everyone, even the mages is geared towards peacetime solutions.
Similar to how the Water Mages were used for mundane tasks, the various elemental mages were now being used as such as well. Jin did not care whether it worked for the mages or not but they needed to know that right now rebuilding the capital to be a more efficient place was more important than insulting their elemental capabilities. So long as they were useful, they would be used.
The commando mages on the other hand had been temporarily given to Royal Mage General Gara to be commanded. Even though they did learn tactics, skills, and development from Jin, the standards and teachings of the Ress military had yet to be ingrained in them.
What they need is some crash course in military terms as well as hierarchy. After that, Jin had also allowed Gara to use the Commandos to sweep the kingdom one more time for any remnant threats that the initial sweep had failed to find. So far, there was a sighting of 2 demons in separate areas which the mages were able to put down with overwhelming firepower.
But Jin was still not satisfied with the answer that the Mages gave.
He believed that there might be possible gaps in his isolation barrier such as underground tunnels that the mages had missed. Gara understood the situation and enabled sortie to sweep around the kingdom one last time.
