Chapter 2217: Extra: One Day Prior in Trin

Soon, the 'Demons' did not need the fog of war to make their way through. Their surprise attack was more than sufficient opening for the rest of the Demon horde to make shore. Despite the show of massacre, the entire attack felt extremely clean for such a move.

There was no making fun of the victims or the defence personnel who were desperate to put up a meaningless fight. The Demons cut down every single human they saw within their sight and they leave no tables unturned.

Because of the powers of technology, the demons had heartbeat sensors within their helmets which was more than sufficient to show and locate any surviving humans that were trying their best to hide from this carnage.

But doors were broken and obstacles were removed so there was no chance to hide unless they prepared a mutual death trap for both parties. In a matter of hours, the harbour area of Trin had been fully occupied by the demons and they started to make their way to the capital of Trin.

By this time, there were sufficient people escaping in time to report to the main city to ask for reinforcements but most of Trin ground forces had already been dispatched to the south of Ress as a way of means to provide support for a supposed invasion by them. They never realised that what the City of Mages said was true and the Demons were attacking from the south. The theory that the world was round was not exactly well received at this particular point in time and thus not many believed this possible problem of the demon hordes coming from the north and to the south could ever occur to them.

Only top scholars who heard the pleas of the people who escaped from the Southern Harbours of Trin could then understand the gravity of the situation and advise the King to prepare whatever defences they could muster in order to win against this situation.

Regardless of how thin their troop lines could be, they still assumed that there was no way the Demons would be able to penetrate their capital city walls. Every one of them believed that there was still hope since they thought that the winter snowfall would slow the demons down. Others had even wilder imaginations that Trin's capital would not be attacked because the demons would be going for greener pastures like the other towns or maybe other harbours.

Unfortunately, when the King of Trin attempted to communicate for help from his neighbouring kingdoms, the rest of them had been plight by the very same situation as Trin. Every single kingdom who had a harbour as part of their infrastructure had been beset by the demon horde attack.

The only saving grace was that the attack pattern seemed to be systematic in nature after a few brave scouts tried to gather more information about the attacks. The demons were moving in a rather coordinated manner, visiting every single town and village to eliminate any human life that inhibited in those places.

So, with such information, it was also safe to conclude that there was no use sending even a rescue company to any of the towns that had been cleared by the Demon Hordes that came from the southern Seas. That also means that whatever remained of their Naval forces had been wiped out too. And that was supposed to be the trump card of any kingdoms near the seas. Their seafaring forces should be the main trump card that they should have.

However, the complacency in closing all ports also showed that the Navy was off its guard. Every single patrol which was taking place in the southern beaches and ports of Trin had already been eliminated before they could send a message to warn the harbours.

Hence, with no other choice at hand, the King of Trin started opening his precious treasuries and armouries. Using wealth and the storage of weapons as the carrot in the situation, he attempted to get whatever conscripts they could sweep up by showering money on his citizens. This undoubtedly ensured that the mercenaries who were to participate in this defence expedition were well compensated too.

At the same time, the Kingdom had suppressed information about the demon horde to the best of their ability mainly because of the terrible news it entailed. If the capital knew how terrible the situation was, there was no way the citizens could abide by the King's call for impromptu conscripts. Even mercenaries would drop the allure of money and run north for safety.

And it was precisely because of the excellent information control, most assumed that there was a rampaging demon horde that was coming straight from the Southern Seas and towards the capital of Trin. It was only a matter of time the 'navy' would be able to hold them considering their frantic behaviours.

But at the same time disseminating such fake information, the King had ordered the capital gates to be locked down ensuring no one goes in or out. The only few people who flouted the rules was the King and his family along with a few top nobles of the kingdom as they were been escorted out as quietly as possible from the Capital of Trin.

From the information given, they had already slaughtered the scholars who had warned them of such 'blasphemous' news and took the precaution by moving out of the area. But because of the amount of work that needed to be done, they were unable to leave until much later as the plans had to be concealed even from his own general as the group attempted to escape.

The only unfortunate thing was that their attempt had been prevented when sightings of the Demon Horde had been directly reported to the King before he could make his move. And knowing his general, there was no way he could move away unless he wished for a beheading to happen to him as well.

"Ah fuckā€¦" The King of Trin furrowed his eyebrows and unwillingly took centre stage to inspire the group of amateurs defending his city.
