Chapter 2216: Extra: Five Days Prior in Trin

The various ports from the Southern Kingdoms had finally closed. It had been predicted by the mages in the Weather departments that the snow and blizzards would be harsher than usual and the seas might even experience a blitz of hailstorms.

Thus, most ports were recommended to close early until the worst of the blizzard storms had stopped and the supply chain networks were recovered. This usually happened for most ports and thus the autumn period was one of the busiest times for them.

Most kingdoms had already stockpiled sufficiently by this point and they even had enough rations to send the soldiers to the north according to the plan by the Southern Table of Kings in the alliance.

Thus, it seemed like it would be another peaceful day filled with fresh snow falling to officially mark the start of winter...until citizens started seeing that the ports were filled with fog. Although it was not uncommon for such fog to emerge, the appearance of fog is unusual in winter periods.

Some of the Kingdom's police forces were alerted and they were dispatched to manage the traffic as well as put up signs along with the internal ministries department to ensure that people would not get lost or hit by something.

But despite the sudden fog, none of them treated this event too much of a misnomer. Instead, they continued their lives as it is although the fog was getting thicker and thicker with the passing of hours. It was to the point, some of the citizens had decided to stay at home until the fog completely dispersed.

Or so they thought it would.

As police and a few magic capable personnel tried to light up the area to provide sufficient warning to the remaining people that were still on the roads, the fog finally revealed the things that hid within.

Claws and fangs were grinding on each other. Iron and Steel were clinking with each step that they made. One of the police officers tried to shine his lantern towards the seas when he heard such noise only to find out that standing right in front of him was a figure at least twice his size, waiting to see how the officer would react.

But before he could make any movements the moment the towering figure had been found, the police officer had been smashed by the figure's Warhammer. Soon, the other bays were heard, and such noises were accompanied by screams and shouts to alert the people.

However, the fog not be cleared even as security personnel using the power of wind were unable to remove it. They felt heavy and the use of magic was ineffective, rendering some who infer that this might actually not be fog but an illusion created by these towering figures.

"Demons!" was the first word that came after all that shouting.

"The rumours were true! Call the defending guards in!" Another scream through the fog, hoping that his cries could be heard by the passersby so that the message could be sent. However, it was too late.

There were no instant communication spells nor devices available to this group of people and those who settled themselves in for the night had no idea what was exactly happening. Some even thought that it was some games played by the children who tried to scare the surrounding neighbourhoods…until they realised it was no game.

The demons systematically entered houses to search and kill any living beings that were around. If it was just one or two demons doing it, the current police force that was on duty might be able to do something about it. However, that was not the case for the people living near the harbour. It was initially a dozen few demons and subsequently hundreds were popping out from the sea, with many having the directive to slaughter anything that was not their race.

And even though they were taken by surprise, the people staying near the harbour were hardy group of workers. Many of them were used to the surprises of the sea and they retaliated back to the best of their abilities. It is just that there were so many that the hardy ones were only able to survive that much longer because of their skills and expertise before succumbing to the numbers of Demons that were coming to shore.

Orcs infused with tentacles made them feel that they had gotten the powers and blessing of the Sea Demons while not knowing that those tentacles were made with the apt skills of technologists instead. But to most living in the era where they have not seen an automobile will find these technologies equivalent to magical blessings.

After a long struggle among the people staying in the harbour, the first platoon of defence guards finally came rushing in only to find themselves bewildered by the heavy fog that surrounded the harbour area.

They thought they could make a stand but never did the guards realised that the fog was creeping on them as well. Allowing the demon orcs and goblins to push through the poorly made defensive lines and kill the guards. It was then they realised that the demons were worried for nothing.

"Guess we had something easier than those Demons Rats?" One of the goblins questioned the Orcs who took out their helmets worth of mechanical tentacles for a moment to have a breather from slaughtering the innocents. Discover more content at empire

"It seems like it. From the directive from above, this should just be a warm up exercise. The real test would be against the Mecha World population. That one would be an all out war with them according to Jin's recent emergency town hall meeting."

"Ah, so this is to get our blood pumping and check whether our machines are working as it is?"

"Yeah, you could say this is an experimental ground to ensure that everything we had prepared is working. The fight against the Celestials gave us enough data so we are just trying to see if there are any kinks that needed to be sorted out."

"Lol…he should just give us harder opponents." The Goblin said as he scanned the area to see people just trying to escape.

"They will come by. Just not now." The Orc also had his quick respite before wearing the helmet again and continuing his rampage.
