Even with the renewed vigour that the humans had shown, it did not make much a difference in their attempts to defend the place. The only thing that changed was that they were willing to sacrifice themselves to ensure the evacuation of the citizens who wanted to run, would be covered.
Some continued to think that Ress would repeatedly helped them and also continued to stay strong but only the King knows that they would only assist that one time because of the initiative those few Rifle Mages took to aid the kingdom of Ends. Still, that short one time attack brought them hope and that was all that was needed for them to continue fighting against a meaningless fight against the Demon Horde.
Yet in a few matter of hours, the inner quarters was also brought down.
The walls crumbled even more easily as it does not have the very same mage that did the same trick by soul bounding its body into the walls and becoming one with the wall. Thus, this set of defences that protected the walls instantly crumbled the moment the Demon Horde entered their premises. And with the outer quarters raging so fiercely with all the demons hungering to find a human to increase their system points, it was expected to see the inner quarters to go down just as fast.
Most eventually fall back to the Royal Castle as instincts told them that that should be the last and final line of defence for those in the inner quarters. At that point, the defenders and royal guards even pleaded with the King to go through the escape route provided and run to Ress for safety but the King understood that even if he does that, he would not be welcomed by Ress for what he had done.
He would not be just a high status prisoner of war but also a person that would be sentenced for a long time for the things he done against the Kingdom of Ress. So, he rather keep his honour and die in the battlefield alongside with the rest of his guards and troops. That action alone no doubt kept his guards morale high as they boxed in as one and tried to fend off as many demons as they could.
The only problem was that they did not know how strong those demons were as they saw an Orc carrying a rather odd looking cow like puppet towards them while the rest slaughtered the remaining guards within the Royal Palace.
"I assume you are the King of Ends considering the fact that you are wearing that crown." Moloch asked and the King of Ends nodded his head, a little taken back by the fact that the Demon Puppet was able to speak their common tongue. Experience more tales on empire
"I must say, the living fortress wall was quite a surprise. Something I did not expect. If it was some ordinary battle against just one battalion of demons, we might have lost. So, I am just providing you my acknowledgement for such a feat."
"If you are able to talk in common tongue, I demand to ask why you attack the humans! We did not even bother you at all." The King of Ends retorted."Just as how a human see a cockroach and killed it immediately because it's a hindrance for the future. The Demon Horde felt the same way. That's all." Moloch replied and there was some truth to it especially when Jin wanted to use Atopia for himself. The land was vast enough and there was only one continent in this whole place. The actual demons had been quelled by Jin's existing Demon Horde and Ress Rifle Mages in the North so there was no threat other than the Southern Kingdom Alliance.
The other kingdoms to his east and west were not an issue as well as it seems a bargain had already been dealt with considering the military might that Jin had in his hands. A blatant show of force was more than enough to keep them at bay and they know it well. All that was left was undoubtedly the Southern Kingdoms which he had now eradicated and constructed multiple automated factories at their wake.
It would not take long for Jin to do the same at this plot of land that belonged to Ends and soon, he might do the same for those kingdoms residing around him. The ruthlessness he showed was because of the efficiency he needed to get things done when he wanted to enter the Mecha World Universe. There was no way he could play politics and get things done in a short period of time.
This was the only way he could think of.
Ambitions aside, he too had to think of his people as well. They were given promises that they would lead a good life but the development of their own technology had gone through leaps and bounds. There was no way they were be able to stay 'docile' after their king depart. Surely, they would hold onto his name and honour for a few years but after that?
The ministries he created to handle the people was because they respected the king. But what if someone wanted to bring the ministry down either through the external or internal influences?
So as extreme as the view is, destroy all external influences and if they happened to the largest presence in this world, there was no need for them to betray the kingdom of Ress in any way unless it's through internal corruption.
But because of how Jin had made the ministry be the only power holders in the kingdom and with the aid of the System to assist them, he should not need to worry about internal influences through the ministries.
It was beneficial for the system as well since it does not need to spend resources handling thousands of people but just a handful of people holding power as well as the automated factories all around Atopia.
So as much as it was authoritarian in nature, it did not change much from a monarchy system they had in the first place.
But Jin could see that the Kingdom of Ends would literally be ending in a matter of hours with the confirmation from Moloch that he had killed the king and his guards as painless as possible.
Operation Dreaded Winter is going to end soon and in this time, Jin had prepared along with the ministry on their way to move forward. It was about time to close the chapter on this supposed trial and move back to 'reality' once more.
