It was the era of mutated animals and Kyran had forgotten about that for a second.
He forgot that other than Lord class Order Beasts or higher, the others were basically hiding, fearful of pulling the attention of other Order Beasts, in the area. Even though the number of Order Beasts has increased exponentially, there are only a few Lords.
And even fewer for Rulers.
So a lot of Order Beasts are keeping a low profile until reaching considerable strength.
As the law of the jungle, the strong survives.
Kyran and the others had no knowledge of how the Order Beasts cultivated their strength as this all was still new—but the likelihood of them growing stronger, by devouring one another, seemed high.
Had it not for that, the Knights wouldn't assume this passive behavior.
Now that belief solidified when Kyran witnessed yet another Order Beast join the fray.
"Holy shit!!"
Passing through his keen senses, a gleaming purple-colored beam struck him from the side.
It bypassed his senses and also caught the mutated lizard in surprise.
Fortunately, Naela's spell worked automatically—the dark vines created a shield, right beside Kyran to protect him from the beam. But even then, the heat scorched his skin to black as he got thrown, rolled, and crashed to the side.
Similarly, the mutated lizard got sent flying, its massive body hurling through the sky.
A painful whimper escaped its reptilian mouth.
Naela, who caught sight of this, quickly sprinted to check on Kyran.
He got hit directly and might be too wounded to continue.
It was not a regular attack that struck him.
Upon sprinting towards Kyran's direction, Naela turned her head sharply to the right and saw a massive mutated animal, a mutated moose with massive, branching horns, that were bright purple in color.
A massive amount of elemental mana gathered on its steaming horns.
Showcasing that it was its horns that fired the beam from earlier.
Compared to the mutated lizard, it seemed to be around a similar strength, another Knight.
Just as Naela picked up her pace, the mutated moose caught sight of her.
In the blink of an eye, the mutated moose galloped.
It managed to reach Naela quickly with its head down, pointing its horns forward.
Kyran recovered, pushing himself back up but when he raised his gaze—he saw Naela.
She was inches away from being slammed by the mutated moose's horns.
Crash!
Despite trying her best to maneuver around and also protect herself using the vines—Naela was struck directly, thrown across the air with a vicious wound, crossing her body. She was hit and considering her power, it was unclear whether she survived that.
Upon seeing this, Kyran's eyes widened—his breath stuck in his throat.
His gaze was fixed solely on Naela's body which was creating a bloody arc in the air.
Even her face contorted in excruciating pain.
At that moment, Kyran's heart made a loud thump as his throat became dry.
A sensation crawled from within, something primal that made his throat dry, itching to taste blood, and rend flesh. Not even realizing it, he was already standing on his feet, his wounds closed in the blink of an eye.
ROAR!!
Hearing the roar, the mutated moose turned to the direction of the roar.
It was only then it was greeted by two pair of azure eyes, dripping with unabated violence.
Kyran felt a newfound surge of strength as charged straight at the mutated moose.
Feeling the strength from the impact, the mutated moose yelped, it was sent crashing back.
Not stopping at that, Kyran went low—and made a vicious uppercut from below, striking the mutated moose's chin and flipping it hard. Opening its eyes, the mutated moose viewed the sky and there was a small shadow there.
Crashing down from above like a meteor, Kyran stomped the mutated moose's head hard.
His force created a web-like crack, showcasing the full might his body was capable of.
Seeing Naela getting hurt, he lost himself to the primal anger inside of him.
Pressing his foot hard on the mutated moose's head—Kyran stomped it several times again, each stomp harder than the last. Opening his maw, he sunk his fangs—into its neck, rending the flesh while clawing at the same time.
A savage display of pure brutality.
Retaliating, the mutated moose flicked its head, striking Kyran with its horns.
Due to the sharp edge of the horn, Kyran's body was sliced deeply, but it halted mid-track.
Barring his fangs, he grabbed the mutated moose's horns—pinned it with his leg and broke it with a forceful pull. Blood spurted out like a water gun, the mutated moose retaliated fiercely—twisting its body in pain.
Angered, it channeled its elemental mana instantly and fired another beam.
Kyran's eyes flared—he managed to tilt his body enough only his right arm was pulverized.
But he didn't stop there, his regeneration kicked in as he resumed the bloody battle.
It was an inexplicable sensation, Kyran had never felt like this before.
He grieved, he endured sufferings, but never one like this.
Every time he pinned the mutated moose down and sunk his teeth into its flesh—he felt an incredible sensation, like being injected with dopamine. Remembering the painful face that donned Naela's face, the very act of causing pain to this mutated moose is rejuvenating.
Kyran could feel that every fiber of his being was strengthened to the absolute limit.
Or else, he wouldn't have been able to do this, not even close.
Pinning down and overpowering the mutated moose with his raw strength is quite a feat.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Naela bit her lower lip hard.
She felt immense pain crossing her body—the mutated moose's horns almost split her in half.
Realizing that Kyran was probably sprawled somewhere, she forced herself to sit up—before taking a look around the battlefield. As opposed to finding, what she expected, she found an entirely different view.
On the side, the mutated lizard was limping, its shell was cracked from the beam earlier.
It was going away, escaping the battle.
Additionally, on the other side, she saw Kyran pinning down the mutated moose.
Kyran mounted the mutated moose's head that has its horns completely broken.
He clawed flesh and blood brutally, and from the angle, Naela didn't know if the poor beast was alive or not. Groaning lightly—she pushed herself—and approached Kyran with steady steps. It was when she was near that she gasped.
For better or worse, Kyran had already killed the mutated moose.
Its neck was already torn open and the blood had already mostly dried up.
But as opposed to stopping Kyran was savoring the taste of meat—pulling huge chunks from the mutated moose's body. Horrified, Naela quickly went over to him and pulled his shoulder, "Kyran, stop! It's already dead!"
Upon feeling the touch, Kyran snapped his head back, his mouth drizzling with blood.
Naela sucked in a cold breath, the eyes that were looking at her right now were different.
It was not the normal Kyran.
Realizing that it was Naela, Kyran scratched his neck, "It's itching, my neck is itching..."
"Spit that out, I thought the Silverstar Pack didn't eat flesh like other Werewolves"
"We don't but I can't help it,"
Upon seeing Naela being hurt earlier, there was something inside of him that woke up. and in the very next moment—his throat was burning and itching. He couldn't satiate the feeling, he couldn't reach the spot where it itches the most.
It drives him mad as he can't itch that spot no matter what he does.
But as soon as he bit into the mutated moose's neck, that itch was slowly being satiated.
Due to that, he couldn't help himself and this happened.
"Come on, get up," Naela instructed, helping him to stand up and get away from the mutated moose's carcass. "What would Rex say if he knew about this? You've to get ahold of yourself—you're scaring me"
"Rex wouldn't say anything," Kyran replied firmly.
Naela raised an eyebrow, confused by this response.
She initially thought that the Silverstar Pack didn't eat flesh of living beings to control their urges in order to not mistakenly went berserk, and attack innocent people. All Werewolves have this primal urges.
And somehow, the Silverstar Pack was able to find another way to live as Werewolves.
But it didn't seem to be the case anymore.
"Rex has kept his diet consistent the longest, eating the food humans would normally eat but that streak was broken," Kyran said, recalling the memories of Rex's battle, against the royals of the Werewolves, where he tasted flesh freely. "I don't think he would restrain himself, from devouring living beings anymore so why should I?"
Moreover, Rex also asked him to hunt and bring back a mutated animal carcass.
It was clear what his purpose of asking Kyran to do that was.
Upon hearing this, Naela massaged her forehead.
"If you do this, there's no turning back. Is this what you want?" She asked in concerns.
Kyran paused for a second before he shrugged his shoulders, "As long as I become stronger,"
Having Naela came with him in this endeavor was a good thing for Kyran, he now slowly learn the sensation of what Rex was feeling, whenever there was a threat that wanted to harm him and those he loved.
Just like seeing Naela earlier, he went berserk.
Fortunately, the sight of Naela cleared the bloody cloud that made his vision hazy.
But there was no doubt that Rex and the others sensed him going berserk.
"Forget about me, what about you?" Kyran asked, looking down at Naela's wound.
Upon hearing this, Naela also looked down before she sighed.
"Let me rest a little, I could heal myself," She said, sitting down on the ground to meditate.
Kyran nodded his head before he headed back to the mutated moose's carcass.
"Don't eat it again, at least not in front of me"
"I'm not, I'm only checking"
Closing her eyes again, Naela meditated, using the power of nature to heal herself.
On the other hand, Kyran inspected the carcass and stopped when he caught something.
A brutal open wound that marred its stomach, one that Kyran didn't inflict.
'So it was a weakened Knight,' He thought—nodding his head. 'It sensed the battle and came with the hope of devouring the mutated lizard. But as opposed to achieving that, it was killed by me'
Now it started to make sense.
Kyran knew that he went berserk for a brief moment there and had gotten stronger.
It was within a Werewolf's bloodline—to become stronger the angrier they became.
But being able to kill a Knight class Order Beast, that was still out of his reach definitely.
Turns out the mutated moose was on its deathbed.
It gambled its life for this opportunity, hoping to devour the lizard and healed its wound.
Kyran nodded his head before he turned to the other side, a grin crossed his lips—he sensed the mutated lizard, in the distance, trying to run away. Now that it has come to this, he would not let the mutated lizard escaped.
Just then, however, he stopped when he sensed Naela's entire body stiffened.
He turned towards her and found her face absolutely pale.
Frowning, Kyran approached her, "Naela, is everything okay?"
Upon hearing this, Naela turned towards Kyran, water already pooling in her eyes.
Something must've happened or else she wouldn't be emotional like this.
"M- My parents... they're in trouble"
"Your parents? How did you know?"
As opposed to answering, Naela showed the bracelet on her hand, the pendant was glowing.
Not wasting a single second, Naela stood up—and sprinted away with tears streaming down her face. Seeing this, Kyran was torn, he wouldn't be able to kill the mutated lizard—and also take the mutated moose's carcass if he followed her.
His fight earlier would've been a waste if he chased after Naela.
"At least, I'll hide the carcass first before going after her," He said determinedly.
Kyran couldn't risk having the carcass be eaten by the mutated lizard and making it stronger.
It would've put more pressure to Dargena City if the mutated lizard became stronger.
With that in mind, he rushed to the carcass and brought it to the side, searching for a spot.
