With My System, I Can Even Tame Gods
Chapter 1124 - 1124: The calm before the storm“Are the six factions trying to start a war?”
That was what Emperor Kalos said at the beginning of this meeting.
Since meeting with Lin Fan last time, Emperor Kalos had completely changed.
He was no longer the listless person that he was before. He actually started taking on the responsibilities that he had in the capital and started moving the royal guards to a certain extent.
Though the royal guards wouldn’t actually listen to him fully, they would at least do a few things to keep up the charade.
The royal guards really couldn’t help wondering what had happened to Emperor Kalos that he would start acting this way, but it wasn’t as if there was anything that they could figure out.
The conversation that he had with Lin Fan was kept completely secret, so it wasn’t as if there was anyone that knew that this was what motivated him.
Only the royal guards couldn’t help feeling bitter because this meant more work for them.
Emperor Kalos was a puppet placed on the throne, but there were things that a puppet should do as well. These were things such as holding meetings with the royal guards to confirm what they were doing.
Though asking them about the six factions like this…
Well, it was going a bit too far.
“Your majesty, please calm down. There’s nothing to worry about, the six factions have already promised that they wouldn’t place their hands on Glory City.”
The royal guards tried to convince Emperor Kalos that everything was fine, but Emperor Kalos just narrowed his eyes to look at them before saying, “Is that so?”
The tone of his voice made it clear what he was implying and no one could blame him. After all, it wasn’t a secret that the royal guards were filled with people from the six factions in the first place.
It was a known fact that they were here to watch over him to make sure that he didn’t do anything that he shouldn’t do.
So it was a bit ironic for them to say that the six factions wouldn’t do anything.
They were the ones that represented the six factions in Glory CIty in the first place and they were trying to tell Emperor Kalos that the six factions weren’t doing anything.
Emperor Kalos naturally didn’t believe anything that they said.
“Do you really think that I don’t know a single thing? I know that you are moving the Adventurer’s Guild for something, so you won’t be able to fool me. Even if I have lost all my power, it isn’t as if I don’t have anything left. If you really want to push me, aren’t you afraid of me biting back?”
The regiment commanders were all surprised to hear Emperor Kalos say this.
After all, they had already been used to the way that he acted before where he didn’t seem to care about anything.
Now that he was suddenly acting up was something that was unpleasant for the regiment commanders. At the same time, they had to think of a way to deal with the current Emperor Kalos.
They couldn’t just let him continue acting this way.
If it caused trouble for those that were above them, then it would be blamed on them. Their jobs were to make sure that Emperor Kalos didn’t do anything that he wasn’t supposed to do.
In a sense, they were babysitters and the child that they were watching was currently throwing a fit.
It was only natural that they would have to deal with him before the parents came back.
“Your majesty, we promise that this isn’t what you think it is. We’ve already contacted the six factions and it’s nothing more than a routine clean up of the monsters in the area around Glory City. This is something that was done for the safety of your majesty and the people living in Glory City.”
At this point, there was no point in keeping up the pretense.
Since Emperor Kalos wasn’t beating around the bush, then that meant that they would be honest as well.
After all, they couldn’t stop him from causing trouble otherwise.
“Are you saying that the guards of Glory City can’t even take care of this simple matter? You’re saying that you have to depend on adventurers just for this?”
The regiment commanders all seemed unhappy that Emperor Kalos was calling them out like this. However, it wasn’t as if there was anything that they could say in response to this since Emperor Kalos was still necessary to the people above them.
As long as he was necessary, there wasn’t a single thing that they could do to him.
So the only thing that they could do now was endure until he settled down.
It wasn’t as if Emperor Kalos was able to actually do anything even if he were to raise a fuss like this. After all, his power had long been stripped away from him and he was barely able to exert any presence in this Kalos Empire.
What he was doing was nothing more than a temper tantrum.
Though the regiment commanders couldn’t help being confused why Emperor Kalos would throw a temper tantrum now out of all times. He had long been submissive to what the six factions had done to him, so why now?
Could it be that something had happened?
There were many different thoughts that ran through the minds of the regiment commanders as they tried to figure out what it was that had caused this change with Emperor Kalos.
But no matter how they thought about it, it wasn’t as if there was a single person that was able to figure it out.
There wasn’t a single person that had a single idea of what Emperor Kalos was thinking.
Well, there was one person that knew what he was thinking since he was the one that had talked to Emperor Kalos before this change. In fact, it could be said that he was the one that had even caused this change to happen in Emperor Kalos.
Lin Fan was standing on the side since he had been brought into this meeting as the aide of the regiment commander. He was allowed to listen to everything since the regiment commander was showing him what he would have to deal with.
In fact, it was almost as if the regiment commander was grooming him as a successor.
Though there weren’t any others that viewed him negatively and tried to chase him out. The other regiment commanders also had their own orders to try and win Lin Fan over to their own faction, so it wasn’t as if they would chase him out.
As Lin Fan watched this, he knew exactly what Emperor Kalos was doing.
When he had last talked to him, Emperor Kalos had said that he would take full responsibility for everything that happened. And that was the reason why he was currently doing what he was doing.
What he was doing now was drawing attention to himself.
What he was doing was making the six factions turn their attention to him, so when Lin Fan’s plan came to fruition, they would blame him for what happened. He was basically putting a target on his own back at this moment.
It wasn’t as if this was a bad thing since this wouldn’t actually harm the plan that Yue Lan came up with.
It was just that Lin Fan had to act like he was bothered by this.
So he used his eyes to give Emperor Kalos a look as if he was urging him to stop. However, Emperor Kalos didn’t seem to notice this at all…
Well, it wasn’t that he didn’t notice the way that Lin Fan was looking at him, it was just that he chose to ignore it.
Since he had made up his mind, he would do what he needed to do to the end.
Lin Fan was surprised by how effective Emperor Kalos was at drawing the aggro of these regiment commanders. He knew exactly what to say to make them angry and that they would direct their anger at him.
It seemed that it was only a matter of time before they choked them on their own.
To put it in the words of Lin Fan’s past life, he was being a complete Karen.
“He really does know how to manipulate people, but how did he end up losing his power to the six factions like this?” Lin Fan couldn’t help wondering.
This was something that no one really knew about since one day, the six factions suddenly took over.
The intelligence from the Laver Empire suggested that something happened between the six factions and Emperor Kalos, but they had never been able to figure out what it was.
It was one of the biggest secrets of the Kalos Empire.
With Emperor Kalos drawing all of this attention to himself, there was no doubt that the six factions would be even more invested in finding out what the change with him was.
That meant that Lin Fan’s plan would be even easier to enact since there wouldn’t be anyone getting in his way. All of them would be too focused on investigating Emperor Kalos to see why he changed like this.
It was peaceful enough that they were able to argue like this about nothing.
But Lin Fan knew that once the plan started…it wouldn’t be this peaceful anymore.
This was nothing more than the calm before the storm.
