GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2140 - 2140: House Visit.

To avoid reaching the limit of his oath, he said all that he could say while revealing a few critical information here and there. He did this while eating and having a nice time with his wife.

His dutiful and faithful wife took note of all of this information. When he was done with his dinner, she relayed them to family.

Shawn doesn’t know that his wife told others about what he told her. He has a suspicion that she does, but he doesn’t know for sure. Fortunately, a suspicion is not enough to make someone guilty, so he is not compelled to stop her or punish her for betraying him.

He continued to live his day normally. He slept and woke up. Then he prepared for work.

His specific job is to patrol the city and stop crime when he sees it. He does a good job of it. In fact, he helps the lamp bearers find the crimes of people who have hidden their crimes deeply.

The fact that those troublesome people have set their eyes on becoming the next noble family of Ivory Town and wiping them out has helped his family and doesn’t diminish his work and contributions towards justice.

It can be said that he is the most hardworking lamp bearer in the town. He has brought down many powerful criminals and unearthed a lot of hidden crimes. It is why he gets some leeway when he doesn’t patrol the town and instead visits the posts of other lamp bearers.

Over the coming days, he went to visit the newest lamp bearer many times and tried to instigate him, but the man never budged. After getting the hint after three failed visits, he decided to back off from the new lamp bearer.

He is an experienced hand in determining when someone is willing to work for the Ivory family or not. After dropping hints many times and failing to see any result, he decided to leave Levi alone.

In regard to that, he told his wife that his new acquaintance was too stubborn for his own good and was looking down on him. He didn’t say that he tried to turn Levi into an accomplice for the family and that Levi refused. He didn’t need to say those things because all that needed to be said had been said.

He was ready to wash his hands of Levi, but his wife had another thing on her mind.

She said to him, “The reason why he is stubborn is because you guys don’t know each other well. How can you expect him to come to your house when you haven’t visited his house?”

“Respect is reciprocal. Go to his house to have dinner first. He will surely want to reciprocate and come here. You should do that as soon as possible.”

Shawn wasn’t sure what her hidden meaning was or why she wanted him to have dinner at Levi’s house, but he didn’t ask because he didn’t want to know.

All he knows is that he must visit Levi as soon as possible. He doesn’t know where Levi is living, but he didn’t ask his wife either, as that might expose the fact she is keeping track of other lamp bearers.

His brand might compel him to do something about it once he has confirmed that she is keeping track of the whereabouts of lamp bearers, so he didn’t ask. As they say, ignorance is bliss.

He decided to do his job the following morning. His wife didn’t rush him about it, so he went to bed with peace of mind.

The following morning he went to the base and went to the prison to ask Levi for a chat at Levi’s house. He thought he would be able to easily complete the mission this way, but Levi refused.

The refusal made him frown. If he had suspicion that Levi was snubbing him before, he was sure now that Levi didn’t want to have anything to do with him.

He had to go to Levi’s house for one reason or another, but he didn’t force Levi to take him to his house. Instead, he decided to lurk and follow Levi home when Levi was done with his shift.

He thought that this would be able to solve his problem too, but it turned out that he was wrong again. He followed Levi for a while around the town. Then he lost Levi.

He couldn’t figure out how he lost Levi and what was going on. So he went home to his wife to complain.

He was really in a bad mood. He sat down grumpily in his chair while his wife brought him tea and cookies.

As he ate his snacks, he said to her, “Some people just don’t appreciate my friendship. They refused to be friends with me and refused to let me visit their home. I tried to prove my friendship to them by finding their house myself, but I lost my way.”

His wife listened attentively for a while. She was considering what she could say and how to say it without causing problems.

Eventually, when she was done making her careful considerations, she said, “I would help you if I could. Unfortunately, I don’t know the house of the person you’re trying to make friends with. I doubt anyone in the family does.”

Shawn frowned when he heard that. He frowned because he understood the hidden message and now realized why he was asked to visit Levi’s home.

He thought to himself in surprise, “It turned out that they couldn’t find his house. Did they lose him just like I lost him?”

It surprised him that the family couldn’t find Levi’s house because once he told them about the new lamp bearer, they would surely be watching the entrances to the underground tunnels.

They should have seen Levi when he left the base and followed him home. Then they should know where he lives.

Apparently, they couldn’t achieve something that simple. So they asked him to ask Levi himself to bring him to his house. Once he knows where Levi lives, the whole family will too.
